Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ highly anticipated testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on

Tuesday will be public, committee leaders announced, agreeing to calls from numerous lawmakers and the AG himself to put the hearing on the record.

The attorney general over the weekend agreed to speak to the same committee that heard last Thursday from fired FBI Director James Comey, to answer questions regarding the Russia investigation.

It had been unclear whether the attorney general would speak in closed or open session. But the committee put out a statement Monday saying the hearing is now set to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday in open session.

A Justice Department spokesperson said Sessions requested the hearing be public.

Was changed to open hearing, but given the issue of national security might arise, it's possible Sessions might not be able to answer some questions.

good move,  when the senators ask him about anything of substance he can just punt with "executive privilege, national security, sensitive matter " disclaimers.   Maybe we will get the secret cookie recipe.

Oh goodie I can't wait for Jeffy to start sweating under the collar as usual and then say he can't answer. I sure hope everyone gets the answers they're looking for in a closed session afterwards and do nothing as per the normal.

Well, in an open hearing he can't answer questions covered by executive privilege.. no one can, and no one would, if we recall hearings from the last 8 years of this very issue.

This is the downside of changing from closed to open. In closed, Senate members can be briefed of otherwise classified information.

the question is this:  Will the White House invoke executive privilege?

I imagine they will.  What I don't understand, since Sessions has recused himself from the whole Russian investigation narrative what can he offer?  Are they looking for a character witness for either Comey or Trump?

Weren't the also demanding an independent investigator and they got that as well?  Seems like the Trump administration is giving them everything they want and they are still not satisfied.  Maybe if he gave them two scoops of ice cream they would slow down.  Of course then they might accuse him of promoting obesity and diabetes.

Uh, he was named as being present by Comey and Comey was puzzled by his responses.  So what can he offer?  A third party perspective on what went down at the White House meetings with Comey for one.  He might also be able to expand upon his Kislyak meetings.

He recused himself from his expected role as the AG, because he is potentially apart of the investigation.  He did not excuse himself from being a witness to the facts.

I guess the AGs offices is lying then:

Late Monday morning, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) announced that the hearing would be public.

“The Attorney General has requested that this hearing be public,” Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said in a statement. “He believes it is important for the American people to hear the truth directly from him and looks forward to answering the committee’s questions tomorrow.”
