My son came in with me from Canada and now his 10 year green card is at the 5 year point this coming August.  What should we be doing now to get him citizenship?  I think if I remember correctly that he can apply for citizenship at the 5 year point, correct??

Thank you!

How old is your son? If he was 18 or over when you got citizenship then he simply follows the same steps as you did.

If he was less then 18 then he is already a citizen through you.

He will be 23 in Sept, so he was 17 or 18 when he entered, I have to look at that official date of entry.  How can he already be a us citizen?  They only gave him a 10 yr green card and that's all he has.  I became a us citizen only 3 years ago, I was not a US citizen when I originally came here.

If he had been a minor when you obtained citizenship

he would have automatically become a citizen.

Ok so he was 20 when you naturalized. So yes he has to go through the same steps that you went through.

So is that 18 or younger then?  HOw do we get him a us passport then?  It just doesn't seem like we can do that as I wasn't a usa citizen when I entered nor when he entered..I am now however.  I really don't know how to do this...

Thank you!

He is 22 now, thus an adult, isn't naturalization his own process now? Or did I misunderstand and you only help him with the paperwork?

As you have said ONLY 3 years, pretty sure you can still remember ;)

You will never know until you try.
