There are lots of other similar recommendations I've seen over the nearly 12 years I've been participating here.

I'm sure if you say so there are - I've only been reading vj for about a year and half and an active member for a year. I just try to find useful information when I learn smth new so I can pass it on - wasn't questioning the validity of the statement.

Thanks for answering though.

I have talked to a NVC representative and they advise me to fill out i864 a for the joint sponsor's husband's income to be included in the petition, but the agent that we have been working with is insisting that it should be i-864 instead of i-864a that should be filled out. Please enlighten me. Any help would be appreciated.

This including why was included in my initial response.  Clearly, the "agent" you've been working with does not understand how to deal with a married joint sponsor filing a joint tax return.  I have provided you the correct information as to how to deal with it.

Quick update.

I called NVC, and got my interview date! Now, it is all about working on getting my petition approved by the consular officer. Hopefully I get the checklist of what to bring to the interview in the mail soon!

Hi again!

Interview date is getting near!

I have a question that has been boggling my mind. At the time of interview, do I submit the old i-864 for both the sponsor and joint sponsor or should I hand in the updated one (with immigrant's assets and i-864a from joint sponsor's husband)? Or do just wait for them to ask if I have an updated form? I am just wondering if they are going to question that the i864s would not be consistent to the ones I sent at NVC.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks!

Updated affidavits of support are commonly seen at interview time.

Multiple joint sponsors can be used when there are multiple applicants on the one application... eg principal applicant and 3 children...

Under those circumstances, person A can be joint sponsor for the principal aplicant, Person B can be the joint sponsor for child 1, Person C for child 2 and peraon D for child 3... but each joint sponsor has to make enough for their own household plus the applicant they are sponsoring.

I'll second this interpretation.  Each intending immigrant is has the Petitioner as primary sponsor who can use as many qualified household members as needed to qualify, or can have the petitioner AND one Joint sponsor and as many of joint sponsor's household members as needed.  Only if there are multiple immigrants is it possible to have more than one joint sponsor.

Do you think I should give it to them right away or wait for the consular officer to ask for it?

You don't always have the choice to give it right away, but I would if you can.  It doesn't really matter which.

Thank you! It ended up that I did not need to present the i-864a for the joint sponsor's husband. The interviewer marked "meet requirements" for both i-864 from petitioner and joint sponsor. He did not ask to see the i-864a. Hopefully, they don't change their minds. fingers crossed!
