B2 visa application form - marital status

I am a 47 year old male who has been married for 23 years until my former spouse filed for a divorce in Canada in 2015 (she's already a naturalized Canadian citizen by the time the divorce decree was granted) and I'm a permanent resident in Canada but have been living in the Philippines since I got my pr card. I wanted to apply for a US visa so I can visit my daughter who is a green card holder.

 

My question is, in the US visa application, should I put married or divorced in my marital status? I understand that divorce is recognized in the US/Canada but not in the Philippines. I have not filed for a judicial recognition of divorce decree in the Philippines, which would technically mean that I am still married under the Philippine law. I am not sure if I should follow the Philippine law or the US law when answering the visa application form.

Are you in Canada and applying from there? Go with Canadian law id say

Then maybe work on getting your divorce finalized in the Philippines and after that apply for a visa

if you are divorced in Canada the us will recognize it so you should put divorced for any visa application. if the Philippines recognizes it is irrelevant for the us visa application.

If Canada granted the divorce, the US considers you divorced.

 

Source: am divorced in most countries but not my native one.
