SSN, but... wrong name on GC?

Heya,

So I've had my SSN card since I came here on a K-1, and today I went to get it updated so they can remove the "VALID ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" portion removed and the guy told me that because my green card only has my middle name abbreviated, they'll need to change the name on my new SSN card so that the middle name is abbreviated, OR he told me I can contact USCIS about getting an updated green card with my middle name fully typed out on it, but given the headache of USCIS, I decided the former. He said he would have made it my full name typed out, but I'm only abbreviated in the SAVE system.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

The guy is full of it. He's being too picky.

I kept all our 2 yr cards even after naturalization. So I went to look at them and our socials. All our GC's had our middle initial only, our socials have our middle names spelled out. Well all but one of the kids his social only has his middle initial too.

Every contemporary GC has middle name initialed. The back of the GC does spell out full middle name in the Machine Readable Zone.

That's what I thought. My DHS conditional SSN card has my entire name spelled out, however he was adamant that it either I had to get my GC updated to show the full middle name (I looked it up, that's impossible as USCIS just doesn't do that), or just accept the SSN card with the abbreviated middle name, and he was saying that he can only put it if he can find me in the SAVE system with my full middle name, which he can't, but only with my middle initial instead — I went the easy route and just accepted to get one done with just the middle initial only. I have received my permanent SSN card in the mail just two days ago and while the middle name was shortened to just the abbreviation, the card number is still the same, so I'm hoping it won't cause any problems.

Yeah, that's what I thought, and I also pointed out to him that my full middle name was spelled out on the back in the bottom-right, and he said "too bad, still can't find that in SAVE".

He can ask for a level 2 verification where they ask for extra feedback from uscis on a verification (if he was so stubborn about it). This entails scanning the documents you provide and asking them to verify the name as you like it. It takes about 3-5 business days. Just an FYI,  ik It's too late atm.
