Yeah I see what you're saying but often on here it seems to be "we did things the right way" or "there's so much fraud coming from the Philippines why are they faster?" Etc

ill be honest, I don't really like the k1 but it serves a purpose

K-1 vs CR-1/IR-1 for us really ultimately came down to where we wanted to get married. It was far more important for my wife to be married in England, in a CoE Church. It was part of her "childhood dream", whereas I had no childhood dreams about my wedding so it wasn't as important. If the roles were reversed we probably would have made the K-1 process work for us.

As for the "fraud" issue, I think everyone here must get a little frustrated with the process since we all know we aren't cases of fraud. I know we are legitimate so it naturally seems silly to jump through all the hoops. I have at times, I admit, thought that my wife coming from the UK should label her as a very low risk of fraud (it likely already does). I realize that is profiling, and the legitimate countries from any country are no less legitimate than us just because they come from somewhere else. I'm not a perfect person.

the issue is marriage based visas are all unique to the couple, but you have to go through generalized procedures based on country of origin. just like anything else in life, as soon as you start comparing your situation to 'everyone else' you're going to be disappointed unless you keep in mind there is pretty much always going to be someone who is having a worse go of it than you are.

when i would get irritated, especially when we were put in ap, i would peruse the mena subforums and read about all the children who had not yet met their fathers or families who had at once been together unnaturally separated for a cruel amount of time. we were in ap for about a month. it sucked, but no where near as much as suffering a year+ in ap. glass half full.

For us it isn't "looking down" as much as it is feeling a little bit of jealousy.

Of course we would always want to prioritize refugees etc... but I still think it is crazy how much quicker the processing is for couples who both live abroad and can therefore do "Direct Consular Filing". That is the hardest one, in my opinion. That couple is already living together, they are already residents in another country and yet their application process takes like 2 months or less. They then get to move together to the USA. I realize it isn't because they are "ahead" in the queue, it is merely because the consulates process their applications quicker and it removes the "middle men" at the NVC.

Oh also jealous of people from countries that get to file electronically. Also a seemingly arbitrary thing that cuts down processing times substantially. In general I am just jealous of people who have to deal with the NVC less. I have no respect for the NVC.

K-1 is something that looking back we have both wondered if maybe we should have done it that way, but honestly there are negatives to the K-1 process as well. Doesn't mean we aren't jealous that the time apart is shorter, we are humans who are in love, can't help it ;).

I think of it more like..

If they aren't going to respect basic laws like immigration why would they respect any others?

In hindsight about my ex, I'm glad things worked out the way they did. Here's the story:

DCF isn't available everywhere. My wife was living with me in Israel when we applied for a CR1 for me and still had to go through a 9 month process. It wasn't horrible for the most part, but still long. I have to say though my experience with NVC was quite pleasant.
