i agree with local law inforcement being prohibited from inquiring about immigration status. Immigration has far too many nuances and grey areas for some traffic cop to fully comprehend. Heck many of our spouses have enough difficulty trying to get regular IDs or driver's licenses, etc. If our own families have a difficult time understanding the process, how to explain it to "joe cop"?

lol i can just see my husband trying to explain being legal here but is still "pending due to FBI namecheck" while working in the city power plant. we have had enough trouble with some overly-cautious technician reporting some arab working on the substation systems.

(not to mention this kind of local action is also helping families who are legal, who happen to fall under the same umbrella. the k2 age out issue comes to mind)

Some cities buck federal immigration policies

Liberal enclaves extend protections to illegal migrants

Must be nice to be treated like a VIP while you break the law.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I agree with lal_brandow here. Asking for immigration documents should only be allowed by CBP and ICE officers. There are plenty of "foriegn looking" US Citizens out there, who don't need to be hassled for their "papers" by police, like we're living in the Soviet Union.

i agree, not an old soviet or german film..where they stop folks by their looks to examine their papers

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

agreed, but some will howl in outrage as that will reveal the illegal's status.

I agree with that...you should have to prove you're entitled to the benefits in order to receive them. I don't think that's such a terrible thing. I'm so tired of people expecting me to sympathize with lawbreakers.

I don't believe determining the immigration status of criminals in custody in the jails is tantamount to Gestapo. Any illegal alien in custody of police for violations of the law should be transfered to the custody of ICE for deportation.

Sanctuary cities refuse to cooperate with Federal authorities and actively protect illegal aliens as if they have a right to remain in the USA illegally. They forbid their police departments from determining the immigration status of suspects in their custody.

That is wrong.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Exactly. It does not take a genius to determine whether someone is in the US legally.

It is a bloody joke that these guys are milking US taxpayer funded services while their country does a Mr Burns "eeeeeeeexellent" at them not having to pay for their poor.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

You would be surprised how many average Joes don' t get the nuances of immigration... My husband and I, at some point still in AOs when I had my SSN but not yet my EAD or GC, talked to a DCF agent- it took me about half an hour to explain to him that I got the SSN legally and that the law allows for me to get it under the K1 even if I still don't have my green card....

Hell, even people who are supposed to know it inside and out becuse it's their job aren't quite clear on what goes...we see plenty examples of it here on VJ

Naturalized! Yeah!
