I'll be bringing my car over when I move. I got the compliance letter. (which is another story and I have to do some modifications to my car..)

Anything else I need to bring? I have my icbc papers. (moving from bc to oregon)

Any advice would be great and thanks!

As mentioned, you won't be able to obtain the title in the state you're moving without owning the car outright. Since you only have about a year left on it, you should try to get an unsecured personal loan and pay it out in that manner. It'll likely cost you a little more on interest, but you'll own the car free of liens.

Option two which I've seen done on these forums would be contacting your lienholder and asking permission to export the car and continuing to make payments. It's unlikely they will unless they're a US based institution, but it could be worth a shot.

Depending on the car, you could always try to sell it and re-buy a similar model in the U.S. if it's worth it. Who knows, you might even save a ton of cash by doing so, and you won't have to worry about importing it — just a thought.

There's no separate title in BC. The ownership tag thing you have your registration on will indicate if there is a lien on it or not. [I found BC's insurance/registration combo thing pretty bizarre, on the other hand I found it convenient to do DMV related stuff at 8pm at an drug store ]

If there is no lien and there's a compliance letter you should be able to walk through your import no problem.

If you think you will ever sell the car back to someone in Canada or reimport it keep a copy of your BC information just in case.

I imported a truck into California from BC and sold it to a couple who took it back to Newfoundland and the stupid Government hit them with the AC Duty even though the vehicle was labeled as a Canadian Import they wanted proof it was registered in BC.....crazy.
