Detroit physician charged with mutilating girls’ genitalia

There was an earlier thread discussing this, so it seemed current.

 

Detroit — A Detroit emergency room physician was charged Wednesday with mutilating the genitalia of two 7-year-old girls in what is believed to be the first case of its kind brought under federal law.

Jumana Nagarwala of Livonia was charged with female genital mutilation, a five-year felony, and transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, a 10-year felony, according to a complaint unsealed Thursday in U.S. District Court.

I'm interested in how this plays out. Don't think there's much precedent but if this has indeed been found to be guilty, hope she gets the worst of what the law allows. 

 

Just reading about the details pisses me off.

 

I have a daughter of my own and couldn't imagine doing this to her.

Yes, it appears that this will be a precedence setting prosecution.  I agree with you, I don't have any daughters myself, but I do have several nieces and grand nieces and can't imagine what this would be like.

I have 3 daughters and I find this practice to be utterly disgusting. I hope she gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
