Hi there everyone, its my first post! Thanks to everyone for posting so many questions and sharing information, I've been able to read posts and prepare paperwork for the past month. I'm American and my fiance is French and I will be submitting his K1 Visa paperwork hopefully in the coming weeks. I was previously married and divorced, I took my ex husband's last name and I did not change return to the maiden name after the divorce since we had a child together. I'm wondering if I need to submit a copy of the marriage certificate with the application. If so, would I need a "certified copy" or woud an "informational copy be sufficient"?

Thanks in advance!

Hi La Shanna, since the name on your birth certificate will differ from other documents, I would send a certified copy of the marriage certificate and the "obsolute" divorce decree. That's what they required of me.

I submitted an informal copy of the marriage certificate. It was not notarized. I kept my ex's last name and the birth certificate shows my maiden name. The two names do not have to match. Good luck in your journey.
