Hello VJ,

Are there any guides for applying for a Visa to Taiwan? My spouse holds a China Passport with a U.S. permanent resident and we want to travel to Taiwan for a tour. I know as a U.S. citizen/passport I don't need a visa to t ravel to Taiwan, but I don't know if my spouse needs one or even how to apply for one. I live near San Francisco.

That's very interesting. Taiwan is officially named "Republic of China", China in other hand "People's Republic of China". One would think you can easily move between these neighbor countries without a visa...At the end of the day, territorial conflicts prevail. Sad.

Although it's primarily geared for U.S. passport holders, this looks like a good place to start - TAIWAN VISAS AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

It's possible that she may be required to travel with a tour group, or it may not even be allowed at all for now, considering the present political climate since President Tsai Ing Wen took office (she does not acknowledge the "one China" policy).

The Chinese consulate may be able to help her, although she may need to travel to her home town PSB. It would be China that would issue a Travel Document, but it may be possible to get a visa issued directly by Taiwan instead.

"Taiwan has special entry requirements to current or former nationals of China who reside or previously resided in Mainland China." - Visa policy of Taiwan

Chinese citizens are required to get Travel Documents for travel to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Tibet - all territories that China claims. See Wikipedia - Chinese Travel Document
