Here is my situation.  I live and work in Minneapolis for a company whose HQ is in NYC.  My direct manager is in Des Moines, IA.

For the Employment letter, do I ask the HR department to write it up, or will it be ok to have my manager do it on company letterhead?

Thanks in advance.

I had my HR do it.

If your direct manager has all your specific employment information that should be listed on the letter then they could do it I suppose.

I had listed : hiring date, position, hourly rate, approx annual salary, permanent/temp employee, full time/part time, ect..

When we applied for the K-1 I drafted up a copy, shared it with my manager, asked if there were any changes he would suggest, then sent in PDF so he could print it on letterhead. This was completely fine and accepted.

When we applied for AOS I asked my new manager for the same process and he told me official letters of employment must come from HR. It was super easy to get one since they have a template they just fill in with your personal details. They signed it and scanned it back to me. I printed it and didn't have any problems with it having a "printed" signature. If you have to go this route just make sure to give HR a list of all the details you want in the letter, most likely what they have already covers it.

Good luck!
