Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly is meant by question 5 in part 3 of income and assets information. "Value of my other personal property" what would be included in that? Thanks in advance!

Posted (edited)

Write an approximate value of your personal items: cars, electronics, jewelry, etc.  You don't have to write an exact amount of everything you own in dollars and pennies.   Just an approximation.  And you are not required to bring receipts of your personal items.

Thank you for the response! I'm trying to fill this form ahead of time to send to my fiancé. Do you know if they have a time frame they require this form to be filled out in? I don't know whether to wait for the NO2 first or just get ahead and have it filled out beforehand.

Thank you!

You're welcome!

I have not heard of any particular "expiration" date for the actual I-134 form itself.  Collecting the tax transcripts, bank statements, and other supporting documentation per the I-134 instructions page can happen now while you wait for your NOA2.

Other documents to consider getting now that may take time to get:

  • Police certificates from Bulgaria or other countries your foreign fiance has resided more than 6 months.
  • Certified translations of all requested documents not in English, ie: birth certificates, police certificates, etc

For example, my Canadian fiance is originally from Korea.  She immigrated to Canada as a small child, and for some reason, her family never had a copy of her Korean birth certificate/equivalent.  We knew the process to attain one would take several weeks, and then we would have a certified translation into english.  We took care of this step many weeks before receiving our NOA2.

This is just an example of things to consider timeframe wise.

If you haven't already, read up on the Bulgaria section of VJ.  There's a wealth of great information specific to your fiance's country:

Good luck and hope this helps!

Thank you for this information it definitely helps!

Would you happen to know if the documents have to be legalized as well? Or just translated to English?

The only documents left to get are the police certificate and the certificate or marital status, but I don't know if they would need to be legalized as well.

Also, does the embassy keep any of the civil documents? So I can have my fiancé make a copy of all the originals and translations as well?

Now this is a great time to really make certain of the terminology on the K1 Visa documents for your country.  When you say "legalized", you must understand what exactly your country of Bulgaria is requesting.

There are 2 specific terms I find many people on VJ  interchange that aren't the same and mean totally different things:

  • Certified officially recognize (someone or something) as possessing certain qualifications or meeting certain standards, attest or confirm in a formal statement
  • Notarized - The notary public is a commissioned representative of a state government and is charged with verifying your identity as the signer, ensuring you sign under your own free will, and witnessing the signing event.

Now when you ask, should my documents be "legalized", there is no "legalized" term used in immigration.  In reading many VJ posts, some members state needing documents certified, and others say their country requested notarized signatures on some documents.

For my fiance's country Canada, none of our documents need notarization.  You must get clarification for your specific country.

When it comes to the filing your original I-129F K1 Visa petition, that process is pretty much the same.  Once it is approved and reaches the NVC, then your fiance's embassy - this is where it gets country specific.

As I stated above, get fully acquainted with the VJ Bulgaria info page:
http://www.visajourney.com/portals/index.php?country=Bulgaria

From there, you can also find and connect with Bulgaria VJ members.
