Throwing the door wide open for 6+ billion of the world's people to freely immigrate to 21st century America is an idea that is so stupid in so many ways that it isn't even worth considering.

Making legal immigration easier and in unlimited numbers to eliminate illegal immigration is about as dumb as killing a cancer patient to control cancer.

Well to answer the original poster, We already have legalized immigration. Thats why there so many different types of visa's and we allow quite a large number of people legally into this country every year. I don't know stats, but I believe we are either the number one country or certainly on the top of the heap in numbers that allows legal immigration.

Most other nations with a high standard of living, selectively chose immigrants and it is only a small number based on national need.

Hey I'm trying to get a LEGAL immigrant here, so I support immigration as it was what made america. But we definetly need to close down borders to illegal immigration mostly from mexico and aggressively deport them or have a program where they can go threw the same long (monetary contributing ) process the rest of us do.

We used to have a legitimate guest worker program prior to WWII I think, I would favor one that ties a business sponsoring workers for one/two year status, they pay taxes and can be tracked.

By the way CUTE KITTIES !!!!!!!

wow thanks for the eye opener about the legalisation of immigration , didnt knew about that one

hello everyone

what do u think about this

if immigration is legalised cant the illegal immigration be stopped

definetely security checks should always be there for sure ..

Immigration is legal.....it's the illegal immigration that is not and which is also not being stopped

Noone outside of some wannabe totalitarian nut is going to stand for election on the promise that when elected they will start mass detention and deportation. Not only will they lose the hispanic vote - but they will get civil unrest that will make the LA riots look like a picnic.

Nobody has said anything about mass deportation. That's the fallacy the illegal advocates promote... 2 choice of either letting them become legal or mass deportation.

What most of us agree on is simply denying them jobs so they go home on there own... otherwise known as attrition through enforcement.

There are a number of undocumented immigrants in this country who have family that are either USC or in legal status. Fixing the immigration process to accomodate families would lower the number of illegals. The process is costly, difficult to navigate and long- something shoudl be done for these cases.

Something is being done.. they are jacking up the fees so they can hire more people and modernize their equipment to improve processing times.

They say that is why they are jacking up the fees, but I think it's to discourage some people from filing. The fees can be an obstacle and if they raise them as much as they say they are going to, I would imagine that some people will not be able to afford the visas. Just a thought anyhow.....

Well, there is no evidence of that yet. It's an obstacle? Well then who do you think ought to pay for it, US citizens?

Nothing wrong with securing the borders and fining companies who hire undocumented workers, those things are achievable - that is, if we devote enough taxpayer $$$ to implementing those strategies. Historically however, the efforts have been half-hearted and half-arsed and will be until we stop spending fantastic sums of money on unnecessary wars.

Significantly raising the fees will of course make immigration much more difficult for those at the bottom end of the socio-economic spectrum than for those on middle-incomes. While I'm sure its not intentional - it does close the immigration door to a lot of people simply by pricing them out of being able to do it.

No, just the US citizen that is petitioning. It was just a thought..... I had read the article under the NEWS tab and noticed that propsed fees for next year and I was thinking to myself that I was glad that I had petitioned this year. I make a decent wage, but after my obligations are taken care of every month, I don't have an extra $1000. I assume that I am an average citizen, maybe I am below average (financially). I don't know.

On illegal immigration - I think regardless of what draconian measures people want to see implemented, an amnesty of some sort is inevitable - especially as we're talking about an ineffectual policy that hasn't been properly enforced for decades.

Noone outside of some wannabe totalitarian nut is going to stand for election on the promise that when elected they will start mass detention and deportation. Not only will they lose the hispanic vote - but they will get civil unrest that will make the LA riots look like a picnic.

I do not believe the only 2 choices are amnesty or mass roundups, detentions, & deportations. There is also attrition through workplace enforcement of the law. Without illegal work, the illegal alien has no reason to stay and will leave.

Illegal aliens broke and break numerous laws already, so riots, violence, and anarchy are no surprise from them. Maybe we should quit enforcing laws altogether against any crime in hopes it will go away by itself or fears it might piss off the criminals?

I went through this process myself, so I understand your frustration. I am very thankful that, although the process was time consuming, my wife and stepdaughter have been with me here in the USA for just a few weeks past 3 years.

As much as this might seem like a crappy answer...it was brought to my attention at another forum, while I was waiting myself, that the US Constitution does not give a US citizen the "right" to a foreign spouse. Marrying a US citizen does not automatically equate to a free ticket into the USA. Immigration is a privilege...not a right. There are criteria that must be met to the satisfaction of the bureaucrats that administer these government agencies. We can only hope that these decisions are not arbitrary and are uniformly and fairly administered according to the law. Otherwise, we can complain to our elected officials to address issues that need their attention on our behalf. That's just the way it is.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

this will hundred percent cause limitation to legal immigration'

my husband did feel the fee was too much even now for the wait they are providing for married couples despite he has got good support for me he feels present fees is really too much

so if fees is hiked with the same kind of service many will stop thinking this way

Enforce the laws by all means - hell make them even more stringent. But nothing will happen until the political will is there to address the problem, and adequate funds are channeled into a comprehensive policy. Amazing how can channel nearly a trillion dollars into the military and wars in the middle-east, but are still unable to take the most basic security precautions at home.
