Hi all,

Assuming I'll have AP/LPR status soon, what good is my NEXUS? Can I still use it for U.S. domestic travel? Travelling back and forth between U.S. and Canada? I've only used my NEXUS once and that was from Calgary to Montreal, simply to get expedited through security. I do remember reading that you shouldn't use the NEXUS lanes when using a K1 visa, but I'm curious if the same limitations apply to AP/LPR? My NEXUS profile on GOES has my GA drivers license and US address listed on it.

Cheers.

Hi Zilchfox,

I asked the Nexus office when I was in Montreal to clarify (and my thoughts to you is to keep it):

1. You CANNOT enter the US with your Nexus using AP. However, you can still use it to enter Canada.

2. Once you get your GC you must go to a Nexus enrollment center and have both the Canadian and US officials upload the GC data. They told me you don't need to make an appointment for this, but I would could call beforehand as things could change.

3. Flying as a LPR, you will use only your GC at ALL Global Entry kiosks (both when entering the US from abroad, and at US Pre-Clearance in Canada). Also remember you have to have your Nexus card on you in order to use Global Entry. To enter the US by car you will use your Nexus card, and your GC (you HAVE to have your GC to reenter the US, even without Nexus). To enter Canada by car you will use your Nexus card, and your GC or Canadian passport (if requested).

4. You can still use your Nexus card for ID flying domestically within Canada and the US, and it also provides you with TSA Pre-Check as well, which is a great perk.

Hope this helps!

Nexus will get you precheck as a domestic flyer so you get the fast tsa lines! Once you have your green card go to a cbp office to add it on.  I was told in Denver that I had to be at an enrollment centre to do that but at the enrollment in Calgary they were like "no, they're just lazy."  Lol

Exactly, I have used TSA Precheck and Global Entry benefits more often than the Nexus ones.  Still saving me maybe an hour a week these days :)
