Hello ,

I and my spouse were approved and plan to enter US shortly on Immigrant visas under employment classification (EB). Could someone please help answer the below questions?

1. I had indicated that my wife needs an SSN on the DS260 which I filled online. Will the USCIS auto generate an SSN and send it to the address on the DS260 or do I have to go to the local SSN office and apply for one ?

2. Considering I pay the immigrant visa fee before I enter, how long before I am sent the physical green card. What timelines are we seeing these days ?

Here's my recent experience. I requested a SSN on the DS-260 and it arrived exactly three weeks after I arrived in the county. However, I arrived Christmas week so it was probably delayed a little due to that. You don't need to go to an office if you request it via the DS-260.

I paid the ELIS fee on December 13, the day I got my passport and visa back from the embassy. Still no physical GC yet. 8 weeks and counting....

Thanks JFH .. Quick Followup on question .

1. Can you confirm  if you recieved the SSN from USCIS on the address on the DS260 ? If one changes the address that was noted on the DS260 with the CBP at the time of entry then the SSN would be sent to the latest address that was updated at the time of entry . Right ?

If you don't get the ssn within 2 weeks, go to the SSA office.

My POE was Detroit on 01/10/17 and the SSN was received at the address on my DS 260 on 01/25/17. The CBP will confirm the address so it will be sent to the address you confirm at the POE. I paid for the GC on 01/03/17 and I received the card on 02/03/17.
