It will not delay the processing. You should still check online and the old address, because they might send it to the old one even if you change the address (cover all basis).

By the way, in general people use the USPS move service that for 1 dollar they send all your mail to your new address. I don't know if it delays mail considering you can pick it up at your old place.

Oh nice, I did set up the USPS forwarding service, I just didnt know if they had a restriction for government mail.

Im going crazy checking the website, its been 7 weeks already. Is it appropriate to contact them for an update?

Thank you!

They will e-mail you with a pre-written note saying bla bla bla bla

They will not tell you any specifics about your case or anything useful.

7 weeks is not long enough. Are you counting from the time they got all the material together? (So probably from the day the No objection statement arrived).

Hi all,

Here is a timeline for my J1 waiver. I have broken up the process into two. The first part is the timelines for getting No Obligation to Return to India (NORI). Getting the NORI certificates from the state government took the longest time.

Its been a long journey. I will probably frame the USCIS J1 waiver and hang it my living room.

+1 framing waiver and hanging it in living room

That you for the detailed update.

For future reference, do you know who did DOS ask for Sponsor views?

DOS contacts the immigration specialist at the sponsoring University/ agency. Typically they are the designated responsible officer (DRO) or the Alternate responsible officer(ARO). Hope this helps.

Yes, what I meant is, if it was within the US government, which agency was that. Some agencies never give favorable opinion, but others do all the time like CDC, NHI, NSF, etc. etc. So it would be nice to keep track of which ones do not give recommendations for other people.

Typically they do not contact universities unless they are not sure where the money is coming from.

I'd email them if you get to 9/10 weeks and have not heard from them. Online it says 6-8 weeks so you are still within the waiting time frame.

(Also, they usually take a week to answer emails, and sometimes they don't even answer).

I am anxious because from looking at everyone's timeline on this forum, mine is one that has taken the longest.

If I did not receive government funds, is there any other reason why they would not issue a Favorable Recommendation? I asked a lawyer if I needed to send my CV or a letter from my boss/hospital and he said that the statement of reason was enough.

I wont be able to sleep well until I get a response lol.

My case is rather complicated. But I will be applying for an H4.

I think this 2 year rule makes most cases extra complicated!!

I would think the same rule for the HB1 applies.. you are good once you get the DOS letter and a decision will be made when they are processing your visa.. But I didnt actually found that in written, so I could be wrong
