Ford cancels $1.6 billion Mexican plant

Ford Motor Co (F.N) said Tuesday it will cancel a planned $1.6 billion factory in Mexico and will invest $700 million at a Michigan factory as it expands its electric vehicle and hybrid offerings.

The second largest U.S. automaker had come under harsh criticism from President-elect Donald Trump for its Mexican investment plans.

Ford Chief Executive Mark Fields said the decision to cancel the new Mexico factory was in part related to the need to "fully utilize capacity at existing facilities" amid declining sales of small and medium sized cars such as the Focus and Fusion.

Fields also endorsed "pro growth" tax and regulatory policies advocated by Trump and the Republican-led Congress. "This is a vote of confidence for President-Elect Trump and some of the policies he may be pursuing," Fields said.

Good thing that Ford made the smart decision of utilizing it's existing plants in the US rather than move to Mexico.

Of course, the second part is nothing more than lip service at this point. But I do hope The Donald has a positive affect on businesses staying in the US.

Someone (Trump) will be in charge. Adult? Not so sure. Doesn't quite act like it. Maybe he'll grow up between now and then though. Fingers crossed.

I am sure all the people whose jobs he just saved could not care less about an assessment  of his maturity

You're absolutely right. Just correcting you. He is probably the least mature President we've had. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just an assessment.

It will never be none….we know that. What we really want is a level playing field and policies that make it good to do business in the US. A 15 % tax and eliminating damaging regulations is a good start.
