What? I don't know this story.... I don't think...

The gist of it is that Ivanka (allegedly) said she has never seen the secret garden of a man who is like, say, Lenny Kravitz, President Obama or Drake.

The gist of it is that Ivanka (allegedly) said she has never seen the secret garden of a man who is like, say, Lenny Kravitz, President Obama or Drake.

And relayed that in the most unpleasant racial terms. And also never seen a significant portion of. European men.

She must be either chaste, in her own little white world, or never has been to an art gallery before. Either way, that girl got issues.

It sounds to me like a woman desperate for a man's attention. Is that kind of talk normal in the Trump household?

I thought this story was about how Donald said it was okay to call his daughter a piece of ###.

So here's something that kills me about this. Ivanka and I have had pretty much identical educations up through the Bachelor's degree level. Same type of fancy day school with a storied past; top boarding school in Connecticut; Ivy League university. One of the things I recall being taught in every single one of those institutions was that we were children of privilege, to whom much has been given, whether in terms of money or intellect or talent or some combination thereof. And as children of privilege, it was absolutely vital that we use that privilege to do good in the world for those less fortunate. We must be humble not merely by stating our humility, but through our acts and sympathies. We must be open to new experiences and places and people who differ from us, and judge others on their characters, not on the circumstances in which we find them. Our lives will be measured by the goodness and equity that we can engender.

I heard this from the mouths of educators from when I was in grade school through the commencement address at my college graduation, from my parents, and from the parents of my friends. Go out in the world and give freely of your gifts. You have enough to share. Be good and do good.

And yet Ivanka has revealed herself to be close-minded, image-obsessed and stuck in a bubble of her own privilege. I have read that she hated her prep school experience because all she could think of was her friends having fun back in Manhattan. That she was in prison, because she wanted to be partying instead. She wasn't listening to these messages I and so many of my peers have taken to heart, because she wanted to be elsewhere. So hearing these comments come as no real surprise, in a way. If she wasn't paying attention to the lessons we were taught she wouldn't have heard that your words and deeds are the measure of your character.

I say this not as criticism of her as Trump's daughter (though certainly that experience has led to her poor taste -- I won't even get into how tacky having obvious work done for non-medical reasons before you're 45 is (or how tacky having obvious work done at all is)) but as her as a woman in a particular class with a particular educational background. She should know better and if she doesn't, she clearly wasn't listening to the lessons she should have learned.

i don't know anything at all about ivana trump or what she attempted to instill in her children but i've got a hunch donald wasn't interested in raising his kids to be losers who give freely of their gifts to others. there are no greater lessons to teach kids coming up than those of gratitude and vulnerability and i'm guessing all the trump kids were raised to view these two practices as weakness and to stay far, far away.

it seems to me that ivanka loves her father very much, and she's probably never been too terribly important to him, considering she's not fair play - pretty much the only way a women registers on his radar. ivanka is probably just happy that she fairs better than tiffany. still, i can't imagine how damaging it must be to know that while your father thinks you're hot it's very possible your own father might love you more, if only he could sleep with you.

There was a certain pathos to Ivanka Trumps appearance at Fortune Magazines Most Powerful Women summit this week. She waxed defensive, then dismayed, at her fathers crude talk about groping women. She lamented that the vicious media, which for decades served her father so well, somehow just doesnt get the real him. She insisted she doesnt weigh in on strategy or policy, except for that maternity plan she pitched then made a commercial about. She brooded that somehow, people have gotten the crazy idea that she is a campaign surrogate (a Wednesday text message to Trump supporters begins, Hi, its Ivanka). And she raised the curtain on whats sure to be a concern at the next Trump family gathering: the runaway dumpster fire thats burning the Trump brand to cinders.

I saw on the front cover of The New York Times a story talking about how the Trump brand was being decimated due to the campaign, she said at the Fortune forum. Our team had provided statistics as it relates to our hotel company, for example, showing traffic patterns and actual analytics and data. They insisted on using quotes from random people. I have no idea where they called.

They could have called FortuneMagazine itself. Or Bloomberg, which are among the financial media companies whose analyses suggest the Trump brand is in trouble, if not in ruins. From what we know of his finances, after going belly-up in the mid-1990s, Trump shifted from real estate development as a core business, to marketing. The product he decided to sell? Donald Trump. And he set about affixing his surname to everything from hotels to golf courses to board games.
