My parents are immgrating to US, and the petitioner is my sister who lives in Ohio. We have a family event soon in California, and are debating if my parents should come here first or go to the Ohio.

I heard that they are expected to land at a place close to where the petitioner is. Are there any issues if they come to California instead.

Any information regarding this would be helpful

Thank you

Hi georgie23,

It might be a problem when they reach the POE, because on the their Visa it will have the Petitioner Name and Address and I think the petitioner's address will serve as the designated POE (I may be wrong).

Regards,

Eddie

Couldn't they just fill out the immigration form to have the petitioner's address on it? How would anyone really know where their destination is unless someone tells them? People use connecting flights all the time. CA could just be a flight change for all they know.

Jomo came through Miami which is nowhere near St. Louis, where we live.

I really don't see an issue on which POE people come in through. As long as they go through immigration and customs and everything is in order, it shouldn't be a problem.

It makes no difference which port of entry they use.

Examples: Many K-1s enter through JFK because they heard that JFK still stamps passport with temp-EAD, or others enter by way of Hawaii to have a vacation before continuing on to their place of residence.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Your parents may use any POE in the US (or PFI for that matter) that is convenient for them. They are not required to use any particular one or not.

They may find this thread helpful; there are many examples of what happens at an immigrant's first entry:

Arriving in America, The POE Drill

It might be a problem when they reach the POE, because on the their Visa it will have the Petitioner Name and Address and I think the petitioner's address will serve as the designated POE (I may be wrong).

Eddie: my suggestion is that you wait until you are certain before posting a reply. There is no requirement that a new immigrant use any particular port of entry to the US on their immigrant entry.

The immigrants will have an opportunity to change their US mailing address IF they need to, at their entry.

There is no "designated" POE for any immigrant.
