Hi peeps,

It's nice to be part of visa journey where we can go through this long process as a group.

My question is can you recommend a good lawyer in London that specialises in US immigration and it doesn't come an arm and leg. I don't mind paying just don't want to get ripped off. I phoned one today and the receptionist was very rude!! All I did was ask a few questions about the firm etc. It was like I was bothering her.

You're looking for a lawyer for your IR-1/CR-1 case? Or for another matter? Unless your case has complications such as previous overstays, denials or criminal convictions, it's unlikely that you will need a lawyer. The paperwork is a lot of work but not impossible to do by yourselves.

I don't recall anyone in the UK reporting that they have used a lawyer for this process. But you might want to run a search on the forum to see if there are any threads recommending lawyers.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

DIY it. Lawyers for immigration are only worth the money if you have a very complicated case (say, convictions or previous US ban or something) or you don't know how to read the forms and would like someone to do it for you (you end up filling out just as much, supplying the info to the lawyer to copy and paste into the forms). Pretty much everyone on this forum is a DIY case and you won't find many lawyer recommendations (I had to fire mine).

Click "guides" and read the one for your path - it's not so bad.

My case is slightly complicated. I did all the paperwork for the uscis stage and we were approved but I think need some advice that I can't get by looking online. Anyways Than you for the advice. May I ask why you had to fire yours?

Because they didn't know the rules and misadvised me on the fastest route to obtaining a visa, plus they were slower than simply doing my own paperwork directly.

You can ask this forum if you're stuck - good chance we've seen it before, or whether it's time to lawyer up.

I've heard a lot of good things about Steven Heller. He is a US immigration attorney in the UK. Helped a lot of people to obtain a visa who have convictions.

Hiya,

My E2 application has just been approved and to be honest, I found the whole process hassle free. I used Davies Legal to deal with my visa application and the business plan and would defo recommend. I had rang around a few, also experiencing rude receptionists, so opted to use them and worked well for me.

Good luck and hope you find the advice you are looking for xx
