How long does it take to get NOA1 via email/text?

Hi guys!

This is my first post, though have browsed the forum a lot.

We sent our petition package on Saturday August 6, and our check was cashed on Saturday 12 (completed on Monday 14). That means USCIS got our package the week of August 7-13 (we had a problem with the USPS tracking, that is still stuck on "accepted at post office", but that's another story!).

We included a G-1145 with our package, but my fiancé hasn't received any notification from USCIS yet. We know the NOA1 hard copy takes a couple of weeks, but I thought the email/text notification was just a matter of a couple of days? Well, it's been a week and no news from them yet. Is this normal or should we start to worry? How long did it take for you?

Thanks for your help!

The text/email notifications are unreliable at best. Each case is unique and there is no one time fits all. Be patient.

From personal experience, any emails / SMS messages you receive are just a bonus. TOM169 is right, they are unreliable at best. Sometimes you get them. Sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get one and not the other. And worse yet, they can arrive right away, or be delayed for a week or more. Don't rely alone on just the email and SMS messages. Look for hard copies. That's your evidence of receipt.

Thanks guys!

It's a little stressful, because we haven't received the return receipt or delivery notification that USPS should have given us (we sent it certified), and we haven't gotten electronic NOA1 from USCIS either. So our only "proof" that our package got to its destination is the cashed check.

I would be confident it got there if the check cashed. It can take about two weeks to get the text/email. About 3 to 4 maybe for mailed one.

My fiance just told me he got the NOA1 in the mail today! Yay!!

We didn't get any electronic notification... But we got the hard copy real fast. Our service center is California.

Now we can relax for a (little) while.

Thank you!

You can go to the USCIS website and create a login with your case number and all that. You have an option on there to modify whether or not get electronic notifications....see what it says then fix it in case they didn't put you to receive e-notification. It sounds like they didn't.

Congrats, journey begins.

It wasn't. I turned it on now. Yeah that's probably why. I'm so happy the hard copy arrived so soon so that we can relax. :) xx

I got very timely notifications - like within 5 minutes of my case being updated online - but I know that is not the norm. Some people get nothing at all or just some of them or even the wrong order of notifications. It's annoyingly unpredictable and so very useless.

Just FYI, I received an email and text notification when my petition was received by USCIS (NOA 1), but not when it was approved (76 days after submission). I found out when I checked with my case number on the website and received the hardcopy in the mail approximately 4 days after it was approved.
