DS 260 HELP

Hi,

I am currently filing out my DS260 for my IR1 visa, I am applying through DCF in London. When filling this out online, it is asking for a 'permanent address' and is asking for a US address, also it asks for an address to which I want the green card sent in the US. Neither of these are known at this time, as I am obviously living in the UK still as is my wife.

What do I need to put in this section??? any advise would be much appreciated.

You need a place to move to in the USA. Family or friends?

I guess I can put my sister in law's address, although that is not where we will be moving. Surely it must be normal that the applicant does not know an address at this stage, especially when applying from overseas when both they and their spouse is overseas?

No because by the interview the usc needs to have done something about domicile. The green card needs a place to go. Maybe figure that out before completing the ds-260?

Part of the process is "demonstrating intent to re-establish domicile". If you know you won't be living at your sister-in-law's you must have an idea where you will be going. If you've got to this stage you're close to interview. Where are flying to? Where will you be working? If you're not ready to go yet, maybe delay this stage until you are?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

We have a good idea where we are going, but I won't have the interview until October, but the first step according to the instructions on the website is completing this form. We will not make firm plans around accommodation until my visa is approved, as I will have some months after approval to finalise the move, although my wife is already starting to look for jobs in the US for later this year.

I think we will use my wife's sisters address, as that is where she has been registered with bank accounts and where she has been receiving all her mail since she has been over here living. I take it there should be no problem if we use this address and then when I enter we have another address?

Don't worry, use your relative address. They need it to send your green card there and also they will reconfirm that address at the Point of Entry. If you have a different address at that time, then you will tell them. Also, if you type your relative address, don't forget there is a line for "in care of". Not a big deal that you can't tell where you will be living as many people DON"T know as they RENT a place.
