I had my IR1 interview at the London embassy yesterday, and it was a very smooth process with a happy outcome. I was incredibly nervous especially as my company had offered to transfer me out to the US providing I could start next month. In hindsight, I had nothing to be nervous about. We had spent a few weeks getting large amounts of paperwork in order, for the Affidavit of support, but virtually nothing was requested.
The interview was as many others described here. Started by showing my letter and passport outside before being process through security. After visiting the reception desk and being give a sticker with a number I was told to wait in the waiting room. My number did not take long to come up and I went to the window. A very friendly guy asked me for all my paperwork, and then the affidavit. He only asked for my wife most recent tax return. I asked him if he wanted any of the other evidence (of which I had plenty), and he said hold on to it and they will only need it if the consular officer asks for it.
I then had to go around the corner to pay for the visa (they asked for photo id as I had not signed my card !! I then returned to the original window with the receipt.
I then had a nervous wait for around 45 minutes for my interview. When my number came up I went to the window and a friendly lady basically had a chat with me for a few minutes asking a few simple questions like how we met, how we kept in touch before marrying (in 2013) and where we have lived since. She then asked me if I have lived overseas again, to which I replied never. She then said I had better get prepared for it as I will be living overseas soon as I was approved  I was very happy and relieved. She did not ask for any of my other paperwork, although I am still glad we prepared it all (such as contract of employment, asset value as a back up, and my wife domicile support).
I left the embassy very happy indeed. All in all a very straight forward process as long as you have the basic paperwork in order. |
