Hello,

I am getting married and my husband is in Egypt. I am going there for the wedding and then coming back to the US. I am looking at the I-130 form, since I am going to be in Egypt, should I mail it to the US embassy there or should I wait till I am back in the US and mail it from here? Do I need to go the US embassy in Egypt with my husband at all while I am there?

What is CR-1? is that different than I-130 form?

Do I have to fill out I-864 with the I-130? or do I need to wait for I-130 to get approved first?

I am sorry if I am asking dumb questions. I am so new to this and I am very confused.

I really appreciate your input

Thank you!

Never to be sorry to ask questions. That's how knowledge spreads.

Anyway I waited came ever and submitted.

You should gather all Doccunents get married get certificate open one bank account in Egypt under your both name. And such and such.

When you come back to US submit all here. Embassy there probably won't accept your i130

CR 1 is visa category. Which is for US citizens who wants to bring new married spouse CR 1 = Conditiinal Releaae Which gives 2 yr green card after 2 yr of marriage finish you have to apply for removal of status.

If marriage is older then 2 yr then you assign IR1 which is same but here you get permanent green card

No need to send i864 but do fill out and get things ready won't hurt. I864 will be submitted to NVC once your case will go to that stage

You must file via the lockbox in the USA, you cannot file directly with the embassy. If you are staying in Egypt for a while and want to start the process as soon as possible, you can send the packet in international post from Egypt, but it still goes to the lockbox.

The I-130 is the form you send as part of the petition to eventually have your husband get a CR-1 spousal visa. The I-864 financial support form is not sent till later. Have a look at our Guides here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1 which explain what forms to send when and has tips.

Hi there!

Do not mail your I-130 Petition to the US embassy. You must send it to either the USCIS Chicago Lockbox or the USCIS Phoenix Lockbox depending on where in the US you are mailing it from. Review the instructions for the I-130 carefully, it explains all the documents that are required.

Before leaving Egypt after your marriage, I would get your certificate marriage certificate that will be in Arabic, translated. We also had our marriage certificate stamped at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

CR-1 means 'conditional residency' since you will be filing immigration from your husband while your marriage is less than 2 years. It means that when he is approved, that his Green Card will expire after 2 years.

You will fill out the I-184 later during the NVC (National Visa Center) stage, you need not to worry so much about that now while you are at the USCIS stage. All you need to do is fill out the I-130 https://www.uscis.gov/i-130 and the G-325a form https://www.uscis.gov/g-325a. You also will need passport style pictures of you and your husband as that will be needed with you I-130 packet.
