Cost of medical?

Hi all!

So we just submitted the DS-160 today and I'll most likely be driving to Vancouver for the medical with Dr. Cheema since I'm in Calgary. I'm in a bit of a money crunch myself as I'm trying to tie up loose ends before I leave Canada, so I figured I would either sleep at a friend's place or my car while there (since I can't do either in Montreal, no friends there and I have no choice but to fly).

Unfortunately, I've no record of my vaccination history, and even if I did, I'm fairly confident all my stuff is out of date aside from influenza shots. I also have medical benefits through my work currently. How much do you think the medical is going to cost me? Do you think my benefits through Desjardins will cover this? If not, would it be better to get all my shots done here in Calgary and have them covered by my benefits and just have them on record for the medical?

I forgot to mention that I would like to minimize my time in Montreal as much as possible so I don't have to spend a fortune on room accommodations.

Alberta health will cover out of date vaccinations. Go to a walk in if you dont have a GP to get them to request them for you. Even if you have to pay it'll be cheaper than at the medical. Call or email dr cheemas office to get the cost.

The medical is out of pocket. Neither provinvial health care or likely your private cafe would cover the cost of an immigration medical for another country. It should be about $300.

My apologies, but what's a GP?

For just the medical and x-ray in Vancouver it's $280 Canadian. Definitely get your shots before you head there if you can.

I know Dr Cheema charges $45 CAD for the TDap - which is the only one I think I need but seems BC healthcare will not cover this sooo looks like I'll be paying for it. :ranting:

I'd recommend for anyone if you don't have a vaccination record, and you have some time before you're medical then go to your GP and request blood tests to find out so you won't have to have unnecessary shots.

Unfortunately for your wife Sanil1986, it doesn't sound like you have time for this option.

I'd just go to a walk-in clinic and get them, if there was time before the medical appointment. It doesn't take very long and you'd definitely save a few dollars. Just remember to make a photocopy of the record/receipt.

For anyone who doesn't have their records in BC - the MMR immunisation is covered by the BC healthcare (MSP) - you can just go to London Drugs and have it there.
