I am getting together my affidavit of support paperwork to send to my fiance before his interview. With the amount I make on my own it's a little iffy whether it will be enough so my parents agreed to be co-sponsors with me. They had a question about filling out the form that I can't find an answer to, so I was hoping someone could give us advice. Where it asks how long you will support them, for mine I will put indefinitely, but they of course are not obligated to support my fiance indefinitely. They were wondering if there's a recommended time period to put? Would a year or two be a good answer? Should they put more? They don't want to have to do it indefinitely but they don't want to put a time period that's too short and hurt our chances of acceptance.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

for the k1 application, i-134 for part 11 about whether you intend/do not intend/how long etc, you can leave the check box blank and just put (N/A FOR K1 VISA).

later when filing for green card based off a k1 visa, you/cosponsors will file i-864 for support/sponsorship, there is a mandatory support period that lasts until the sponsoree becomes a us citizen or works 40 credits of social security, this is the only way the sponsor can become free of their obligations.

You do not need to enter that information on the I-134 for a K-1 visa > http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-I-134.pdf

Also, for London, you only need one sponsor, be it you or a co-sponsor. You do not both need to fill out the form and supply the supporting documentation. Just the one that meets the requirement.

You can see if yours is accepted. If not, then your fiancé can offer your Mom's or Dad's I-134. What do you mean by yours is iffy? Are you over or under 100% of the poverty level?

Thanks everyone!

I am over the 100% but just barely and I read that sometimes depending on the person interviewing they might want it to be over the 125% which it isn't so my parents are doing one too just to be on the safe side.

Good plan.
