Checking Status of an Application (For Parent of a US Citizen)

Would appreciate if someone could tell me about their experience of checking (family sponsor) application status:

- I have received NOA dated May 20, 2016 for form i-130 with a 'receipt number' and not a 'case number' and it states that your application is in process

- I try to go on this website https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do ; in response I receive an error message that "System dose not recognize this receipt

number, please insert correct receipt number."

- I am puzzled because I am plugging in the correct receipt number, still the system does not recognize that, the only reason I can think is that website is not

updated by USCIS office however, someone has mentioned that what is written on NOA is correct information (which says in process).

- My request to the audience is that someone could share their own experience.

Thanks to all

It's the same thing here, and for quite a few others. We haven't been able to check our status since day 1 and still can't. Some seem to be able to check it after a few days, or weeks, or months. USCIS' system sucks pretty bad and when you call their support they can't see anything either, neither the regular support or Tier 2.

Sometimes the online system never works, or it might come alive in few weeks. While it's annoying, it doesn't really matter and rest assured that the real case is not tied to the online updates. Wait for your approval in the mail in 5-6 months. Good luck.

AOS for my husband

It could help to see the status online in case you get a NOID and never receive the hardcopy. Then at least you know something happened and that you need to call USCIS to have them send the hardcopy again. Important as you only have 30 days to respond. I don't know how else you'd know about it in case the letter never make it to your mailbox. =/

I for instance have zero idea if something have happened to our case and we just never got the hard copy.

Another sucky thing with having a receipt number that doesn't exist is that you can't sign up for email/text updates via your account on their webpage.

And yet, people were able to successfully immigrate before the internet.

I'm sure they did, but I bet the internet has made it waaaaay easier and made the process more accurate with less issues.
