Hey everyone,

My Argentine wife and I have moved to the SF Bay Area 7 months ago and are looking for some new friends. I'm originally from the area, but it's been hard for us to meet other couples like us and for my wife to make new friends outside Argentina. She just started a new job but the people there are older so it's hard to relate and have things in common. The immigration experience is truly unique, and I feel making new friends who have gone through similar experiences would be awesome.

Is anyone living in the SF Bay Area and want to meet up? Anyone else having a hard time adjusting and making new friends?

Send me a message and let's coordinate!

Best,

James

Whether or not your wife is particularly religious, are there churches that offer services in Spanish? You'll largely meet quality people there, and possibly develop friendships.

Your situation isn't precisely analogous to ours, but I dropped Mrs. T-B. at such a service when she was very freshly in the U.S. At pick-up, I waited a long time for her, and then she finally emerged. She was bubbling with excitement and introduced me to several new acquaintances. This kick-started her social life here. She attended a maximum of 3 of the church services and came away with a bunch of new friends. Perhaps if you try the same, you can meet similar couples, or at least your wife can meet some new amigas.

Remember that the power of networking with whomever you meet there can land you in friendships with couples exactly like you.

Have you guys ever used meetup? Search for special interests, sports, musical groups, ethnic language groups, etc. you name it. Times are changing, people are getting more and more distant to others but I am sure you will find couples going through similar journeys as yours.

Meetup is great! I found a group of British expats that go to the pubs in SF every week. I've yet to be able to come to one of their meetings, but now I work in the city I'm hoping to make a trip out to where they are one night after work. SF can be a very lonely place, but it can also be one of the friendliest if you can get a good group of people together.

We're from San Francisco, I'm going through the same situation, I've been here for a year now and although i have few friends (My USC spouse's friends, and they are all in the same age in their 50s, so i feel your wife about not being able to relate), I'm 31 by the way.

It would be nice to have new friends of my own. Since, i can't work yet (waiting for my EAD) it's a bit hard for me to make new friends specially i'm still kind of shy around americans (always overthinking whether they think I'm weird or something). lol but what's keeping me busy is being a Foodie and exploring the city, taking pictures etc. I turned my husband into a Foodie and Instagram husband!

Would be nice to meet you guys halfway like downtown SF to go for lunch, dinner or even Happy Hour. Just message me anytime if ever you guys have plans to come down. :dancing:

Emily
