Will being refused entry to the US affect my visa?

I was travelling back and forth from the US and Canada over the last 3 years visiting fiance and showing my horses (NOTE - I was not working). I got nabbed going across to the US (I'm Canadian) last june. The lovely border guard informed me that I had been in the US too much and tossed me back Canuck side. Initially they told me I had a 5 year ban but I got a letter in the mail about a week later that said they were not inacting the 5 year ban and I could travel to the US if proper ties to Canada were shown....

My question is - is this going to affect my visa?

The K1 visa is based on a different set of presumptions. To get in as a tourist, you have to prove you'll go home. To come on a K1 visa, you're coming to stay (or you'll be filing to stay, at any rate), so they don't need to see ties that you'll go home.

Two different sets of rules for two different games.

You WILL, however, when the time comes, have to tick the box on the DS-156 (hope I got that number right) that says you were denied entry once. You still must answer all questions truthfully. So dont' take our advice that it won't affect you as permission to leave out that fact when specifically asked about it. That's way down the road though, after you get through the USCIS part of it.

Thanks! I knew they'd probably ask about, and have no intentions of lying about it (It will no doubt show up on their all powerful, all seeing computer screen anyway! ;) ). Just didn't know if it could negatively affect my visa in some way.....

THANKS!

By the way....not sure about the all-knowing computer comment. When we had our AOS interview, we were relying on them to have all the info of my husband's entries (including 2 denials) in their "computer system." The officer was like.....no, we don't have that. So....weird, right!?

But you got a letter, etc. so it's probably different. I just wanted to share that what we think they have is not often what they really have. Unless of course, he was lying about it, but I don't know why he would have done that.

It shouldn't. What breed and style do u show? The pic tells me dressage.

I have 5 horses - 3 OTTBs, a mini and a Canadian Horse. I do show dressage! Just the OTTBs right now, one is doing Prix St George, one 2nd and one just starting out at training level :) I'm actually a FEI level dressage rider/trainer. YOU? :)
