Going on a cruise with expired GC and I-797 Notice (Norwegian)

Hello everyone,

I read a ton of different topics, and still the stories are pretty contradicting.

So, I'm thinking of going on a cruise with my conditional GC expired (I have my 1-year extension letter though).

The question is - did any of you, by any chance, went on a cruise with Norwegian Cruise LIne while being in a similar situation?

I read a story of one guy, who was denied boarding the ship, even though he provided them with all the necessary documentation.

I also found a story, when everything went smooth.

Please, anyone?

I don't see a problem, call the cruise line and double check. Just make sure you have a valid passport and your marriage certificate with you if changed your name and your passport is in your maiden name.

I traveled all over the world with an expired GC and a case pending. I applied for visas, including tough ones, while in the US. The most annoying thing: I had to haul around my divorce papers, my name change order, my GC extension letter, GC and passport. I'd just show up half an hour earlier than usual in case I had to explain something to the slow check-in agent. And I had to go the the special room at the US border every freaking time... The officer at the border booth told me even if he thought my extension documents were OK, he had to send me to the tier 2 border officer for a review. Other than waiting, I never had a problem.

As for visas, I had to explain what all of it is and once they called me to make sure I can travel and get back to the US.

I had a conditional GC with an extension letter, and then I had the same GC, letter and a stamp in my passport extending the extension :-D removal of conditions took a while. If you are worried, find and print out the laws about it. I had an agent deny boarding once because they though England is Schengen zone and I can't make 2 stops on Schengen zone without a visa, but a quick talk to a supervisor and a lesson in political geography fixed the problem ))

This action was to comply with this provision of the VisaJourney Terms of Service:

If I may ask: How did you get the I-797 extension letter?

By applying for a 10-year GC. They send you a NOA1, which is basically a 1-year extension of your conditional GC, so you can work and travel while you're waiting for a permanent GC.

wow that's pretty heavy duty moderation! sounds to me more like censorship! lol
