Conservative female journalists open letter to Trump: Tell Lewandowski Youre fired!

A day after Donald Trumps campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was charged with assaulting a female reporter, more than a dozen conservative female journalists signed an open letter calling for the Republican frontrunner to fire him.

The press is to have an adversarial, yet civil approach to those in, or running, for elected office, the letter signed by 16 women from a wide range of news outlets reads. Never in this line of work is it acceptable to respond to reasonable and legitimate questioning with use of physical force.

Lewandowski was charged with simple battery stemming from a March 8 incident involving Michelle Fields, then a reporter for Breitbart News, in the ballroom of the Trump National Golf Club following a press conference there. Surveillance footage released by Jupiter, Fla., police showed Lewandowski grabbing Fields a reporter whom he previously said he never met and never touched as she approached Trump to ask him a question.

The photographs, audio, videos and witness accounts documenting the treatment of Michelle Fields by Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trumps campaign manager, are inexcusable and unprofessional, the letter continues. Donald Trump should immediately remove Lewandowski from his campaign.

Among the women calling for Lewandowskis removal: Dana Loesch, Radio America and Blaze TV host; S.E. Cupp, Daily News columnist and CNN contributor; Meghan McCain, America Now radio host and Fox News contributor; Katie Pavlich, Townhall editor and Fox News contributor, and Mary Chastain, writer for Breitbart News.

The Trump campaign has stated that Lewandowski will not be fired even if convicted, their letter adds. However unlike the Trump campaign, we believe in making a statement on the record to clearly highlight the difference between right and wrong.

Lewandowski turned himself in to the police early Tuesday morning, entered a plea of not guilty and was released. Hes scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

A defiant Donald Trump insisted Lewandowski did nothing wrong, mocking Fields alleged injuries.

Shes not a baby, Trump told Anderson Cooper during CNNs Republican town hall Tuesday night. She was grabbing me. Am I supposed to press charges against her?

At one point, the blustery billionaire grabbed his arm in mock pain.

Oh, my arm is hurting, Trump said sarcastically. Anderson, my arm is just killing me.

The former reality show star said it would have been easy to fire Lewandowski, but he remains fiercely loyal to his top lieutenant.

The problem is everybody dumps people when theres a sign of political incorrectness, Trump said. It would be so easy for me to terminate this man, ruin his life, ruin his family hes got four beautiful children in New Hampshire ruin his whole everything and say, Youre fired. OK, Ive fired many people, especially on The Apprentice.
