Nine people charged with murder after a fight between two high school girls over a boy escalated wildly into a street brawl with baseball bats and knives where an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death

  • Demajhay Bell, 18, was stabbed in the neck during a chaotic street fight
  • Teenager was bystander in brawl of 50 people with bats, pipes and knives
  • Row first broke out between two girls over 'a boy and some racy photos'
  • Nine people between 18 and 39 charged with assault and felony murder
  • Demetrius Lamont Harris Jr, 21, has been accused of stabbing Demajhay

Nine people have been charged with murder after a row between two high school girls over 'a boy and some racy photos' led to the death of a teenager.

Demajhay Bell, 18, was stabbed in the neck by a friend during a chaotic street brawl at the house of one of the feuding girls in Hephzibah, South Augusta.

The teenager, who stayed inside for most of the fighting, was wounded in the deadly melee which featured a 50-strong mob wielding baseball bats, knives and pipes last Friday. He died in hospital two days later.

Demajhay was accidentally stabbed by Demetrius Harris, 21, - one of his friends - allegedly as he tried to lash out at an attacker who had broken his arm with a bat.

Harris was caught on camera at the scene with a knife in his raised hand while the two girls brawl in the background.

The incident called 'one of the most senseless murders that we've had' by a sheriff, took place at 2200 block of Chaps Lane.

It was sparked days earlier with a fight between two girls at Glen Hills High School over a boy and some suggestive photos.

School officials stopped the row on campus, but the dispute raged on through social media and text messages.

Friends and relatives of each girl joined in and soon there were two groups with up to 50 people threatening to settle the dispute in the streets, according to Eyvette Byrd, 39 - the mother of one of the feuding girls who is 15.

She is also the mother of 21-year-old Demetrius Harris Jr, who stabbed Demajhay. Both have been charged with aggrieved assault and felony murder.

The mob showed up at the home at around 1.45pm and fighting spilled onto the street. It was captured on video and later posted on Youtube.

The horrifying two-minute video shows two women locked in a fistfight while baseball bat wielding bystanders circle them.

One uses the bat to smash onto the hood of a Dodge Charger car which drives after him and plows into a neighbor's front lawn.

Another young man gets hit in the arm with a baseball bat, at which point onlookers scream 'Call 991'.

At the end of the harrowing footage a person can be seen running past clutching his bloody neck - who police have confirmed was Demajhay.

The teenager managed to flee in a car and stopped when he saw an officer in a patrol car.

He was rushed to hospital but had already lost a significant amount of blood by the time he was given medical attention.

Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree told ABC news: 'This is one of the most senseless murders that we've had.

'The brawl itself was a coordinated effort. The group in the neighborhood knew the other group was coming to fight.'

Nine people - ranging in age from 18 to 39 - have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and felony murder.

Demetrius Lamont Harris Jr, 21, has been identified as the suspect accused of stabbing Demajhay by the sheriff's office.

The suspects include Quiauna Henley, 35, her daughter Quiasha Henley, 18, A'Lexis Cain, 18, Tyteanna Thomas, 18, Raheem Jobes, 19, Myah Dunbar, 18, and Terry Lee Daniels, 19 and Eyvette Byrd, 39.

Sheriff Roundtree said that Demajhay's death was not intended.

'He was not even participating,' he said, adding that Bell been inside a relative's house for much of the fighting and had just emerged to see what was happening.

'The person who stabbed him was a friend of his. He wasn't the intended victim.'

Authorities have arrested nine people. Georgia law defines felony murder as a death caused during the commission of another felony.

The charge does not require intent to kill and it carries an automatic life sentence.

The sheriff said all suspects charged in the case remained jailed Thursday. It was not immediately known how many of them had defense attorneys.

Cheryl Karounos, spokeswoman for the Georgia Public Defender's Office, said the agency's Augusta office was representing one of the suspects, 35-year-old Quiauna Henley, who is Quiasha Henley’s mother - one of the suspects charged with murder.

She declined to comment further on the case.

The guy who was killed wasn't even the intended target. He was stabbed by a friend. Truly horrible. They need to go away for a long time.

Are these what Hillary calls Super Predators?
