Thanks for your answers in advance!

I wonder if me - the petitioner and my wife - the applicant, should live with my father (who is our possible co-sponsor) in the same house for the whole time of her first years in the US? Because we should share the same household if using a co-sponsor form so I wonder if it's important only when applying or longer, because we want to move out in the future.

Moreover, do I should show any evidence of living together with the co-sponsor or ID is enough?

Additional question: do translations of documents, like birth certificate, have any expiration date or it doesn't matter when it was prepared?

You don't need to live with the joint sponsor at all. They don't even need to live in the same state.

You don't have to live with the joint sponsor to use them. Maybe you're thinking about the i-864a and household member of the joint sponsor?! When using a joint sponsor, you the petitioner fill out one i-864 and your joint sponsor fills out one i-864.

I think you mean household member sponsor right. Hosehold member sponsor is somebody who has the same residence as sponsor and is related to the sponsor i.e. parent, sibling, adult child. In this case you would be submmiting with your I 864 also I 864a.We are doing the same, we will use a household member sponsor, i was thinking about the same question, how long do we have to live with my husband´s parents. But we want to call USCIS or NVC to find out about it.

Regarding the translation, i do not think there would be any exparation date. Once it is translated it is translated.

you can find a place and move next day, they will still be the co sponsors until the beneficiary becomes a USC

Since when did the beneficiary have to live with the joint sponsor? Is this new? Our joint sponsor lives in a different state over 1000 miles away. We have no need to live with him.

I think people are getting confused. If you have a joint sponsor and that joint sponsor is using a family member's income also to combine the income then they have to be household members. So if your brother is your joint sponsor and his wife lives with him and you are using her income as well then they must be under the same household at the time. You are using them merely for financial support for your application. You dont have to live with them. Nor would it be expected. It may be that when you first arrive and have no job and money is tight that you need to live with someone else to save money but it doesn't have to be the joint sponsor. It is perfectly acceptable to use a joint sponsor to whom you are not related and who lives in another state. As is the case for us.

You dont have to live with the joint sponsor. The jointsponsor can be whoever. But there is an option for sponsor to use a household member to help him finance the beneficiary..The household member fill in the form I864a called Contract between sponsor and household member. to use a household member, the sponsor must have the same residence. But at the same time i think you still can say for example parents who live with the sponsor will be joint sponsors then they would fill in I864. I dont really know why they diferentiate it but the joint sponsor is not same as a household member sponsor.

Thank you for your answers!

And exactly, I'm thinking about household member sponsor not a joint sponsor, because we want to combine our income.

That's why I'm so confused about how long we should live together. Is it risky if we are sure that we want to move out in the future? Is it safer to fill a joint sponsor form?

So i have received an information that it does not really matter for how long you will live with your household member who is helping you to sponsor. you can move out whenever. Hopefuly that is true becasue we are gonna use my husband´s parents as household member sponsors and we intend to move out as soon as possible.

You don't have to be live with the joint sponsor ever. The joint sponsor can be a neighbour, a co-worker, a friend or even a stranger. I have seen people advertise on Craig's list for a joint sponsor.

Here is how it works. I am married to my husband. He is the petitioner. I am moving from England to live with him in Seattle. My husband does not make enough money - actually he is borderline but we are using a joint sponsor to be safe. My husband's parents are dead. His sister is dead. His brother is...well, we don't know where. So an old friend has volunteered to be the joint sponsor. He makes good money working in a mine. He lives many miles from my husband in Colorado (my husband used to live in Colorado). When I move to the US I am going to live with my husband in Seattle. Not going to Colorado. Don't want to go to Colorado. Never going to live with my husband's old friend. All he is doing is signing that he will accept financial responsibility. i imagine we won't even see the co-sponsor for many months because he lives so far away.

If your father/mother/brother/boss/friend is your joint sponsor you do not have to live with them. Ever. Not even for one night.

Absolutely you can move out whenever. They just have to be aware that they are responsible for you until you become a citizen or have worked for 10 years.
