clorox wipes! i may be a greenie hippie recycler... but i do indulge in disposables. my mother always used dishrags. ew. sorry for all dish-rag-lovin-peeps. i dont like wet things hanging around my kitchen. i love me some sponges & clorox wipes.

im with u jenn on the swiffer ... how much easier could the make it?

Hey...I'm with you on that Laura...I've been called "one of those backtothelanders" before, but I do like some disposable items. Give me disposable wipes and Clorox cloths.

Used dryer sheets are good for dusting too...it collects dust and doesn't let go. I use it on my monitor too. :)

Does anybody have any good suggestions for those awful hard white "marks" in the shower, sink, toilet, etc. (calcium?????). I have tried Lime Away and CLR, with no good results. THEY ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!

ooo Im waiting for the answer to that one too! We have a really old tub, that CLR stuff is rubbish.

I use "The Works" for funky tub grime. I just let it set for a minute and everything wipes right away. I've with everyone and the Swiffer. It rocks!

While we are on the topic of cleaning products, we have a stove with the ceramic (instant heat) cooktops, although gas cooking would be better, no natural gas here.

Are there alternatives to the commercial cleaning products for that?

Ohh cleaning items, my favourite subject (sad, I know)

For hardwood floors I use Orange Glo Hardwood Floor cleaner and the pink mop thing, throw it in the washer after every mopping and it's like new.

I use Comet on the bath.. nice and abrasive, gets rid of all the soap scum and limescale marks.

Shout! wipes are with me at all times, great for on clothes and also on the sofa's if anything gets spilled.

I also keep baby wipes around all the time.. cream sofa and muddy dogs don't mix!

I'm going to buy a magic eraser tomorrow as you all speak so highly of it!

Cilit Bang in the UK is the same as Easy Off Bam here. Barry on the commercial is on here too.

One complaint here.. Bleach isn't as strong as UK. I love a good thick bleach!

Last tip for all you bachelors awaiting their loved ones.. Tide Simple Pleasures Vanilla and Lavender laundry detergent and fabric softener makes your clothes and sheets smell SO nice and the smell lasts for ages. I think I'm addicted to it.

I (L) cleaning!

I prefer the Stanley Products (Fuller Brush) version of the magic eraser. It lasts about 10 times longer. The Mr. Clean eraser barely makes it across my stove top :P

I use Watkins Cream Cleanser on my flat glass stove top, it works great!

Recenlty hubby got motor oil sprayed all down the leg of his kaki trousers (friend with a backfiring truck!) and we figured they were doomed, but we put some Watkins Degreaser on them, put them in the washing machine, and presto! No more motor oil! That was a relief, because we can't afford to go out and buy new clothes with him not working. Pretty much all the cleaning products I use now are from Watkins. I like them because they're environmentally friendly biodegradable.

I love the Swiffer duster thingies, and for knick-knacks with detail that's hard to get into with a duster, I use canned air, like you use to clean the computer. It works wonders, and its so easy. Just blow the dust off :D

I use Watkins Odor Zap on the furniture to get rid of the dog smells, and then once that has done its job, I use Febreeze on them. I'm a Febreeze addict.

I go to bed bath and beyond and get the cordless swivel sweeper, you plug the charger into the wall and it charges it, you can pick up little crumbs and things with it, if you cant be bothered to get the hoover out.

I also have one of those broom type things that attracts hair, as i have one VERY hairy husband and 2 cats.

For hard water stains go with The Works as mentioned above, I believe a bottle at a dollar store is $1. Very good buy for what it does.

The best thing for hardwood floors is a bit of vinegar and water in a spray bottle with one of those microfiber cloth mops. I always pulled the cloth off randomly and rinsed and wrung it out it seems the more dry it is the less likely you will end up with streaks. Two works even better as you can mop with one and dry and buff up with the other.

I love Swiffer too....but....

I've found that Swiffer Wet leaves a nasty residue on hardwood floors. Just sort of a filmy yuck.

I am not sure if you are aware but they do have a cleaning solution specifically for hardwood floors....

BTW, did you all know that you can use a can of Coke in your toilet? I haven't tried this yet, but I was told that the carbonating effects "scrub" your toilet. Hmmm....might have to try that.

Just a small comment, in fact the phosphoric acid from coke is doing the job, and not the "carbonating effect" that is basically the carbon dioxide (a gas) getting out of the liquid (phosphoric acid is added in the coke as an acidifier)

windex..use it for everything..( my fat greek wedding dad)

Do you mean the ammonia version or the vinegar one?

(FYI, I've seen an instruction for "cheap all-purpose cleaner" which mainly consists of ammonium acetate--EXACTLY a combo of ammonia and vinegar)
