A touch is just VJ speak for noticing that the date has changed in your online USCIS account. Once you are in the process, you get a file number you can use to register an account with USCIS (the people who process the petitions and pass them on to the State Department, which issues the visas themselves).

Sometimes, someone deep in the government somewhere, picks up your file and does something with it that doesn't necessarily result in an official action (like approving the petition, etc). But whenever someone physically touches it, they log that action in the comptuer which sometimes makes the date change of when it was last handled.

Sometimes touches come before an approval or a request for additional evidence. Sometimes you never see anything change and you get approval in your mail box. There's no science to it - just a term of art that is kind of, but not wholly reliable or meaningful.

Welcome to VJ.

I agree with TImsDaisy. I was like you before, I mean I was confused of what were these terms being used by the members here but as I get myself connected here everyday, I learned a lot.

Good Luck!

A touch is someone doing something with your petition.

you have to login to the USCIS profile page everyday to see a date change. Even on Saturday and Sunday.

The reason you get a touch on sat or sun is that USCIS has data entry operators that update the case from the adjudicators, or case transfers.

You will only know your date change per day. There is not a log of date changes in your portfolio.

Now, one thing I noticed today.

Feb filers with case transfers to CSC got a touch yesterday 3-17.... I was one of them :)
