Hi all, again... I know you are probably all getting sick of my questions but your help is greatly appreciated!

My partner has asked me to ask the following question as she will be applying for the visa for us.

The question is about documents you send for your k1 application. We need to know what documents have to be original and not a photocopy. We know that things like birth certificates have to be sent, would this need to be original? I know that she will need to send a copy of this package to me however if everything has to be original how can you have 3 copies? If someone can list what has to be original and what can be photocopies thay would be awesome!

Again people that have done this and been successful would be beneficial

Thanks in advance all!

Please follow the guides. It tells you what needs to be original and what can be photocopies. The only thing I sent in as petitioner that was an original was my divorce decree and our county gives them out free. I could get as many as I wanted. They recommend making a photocopy of the entire I-129f packet that the petitioner mails in, so that you have everything in case you ever need it again. The entire extra set can be all photocopies, this is just for your record and most likely will never need/use it. I gave the duplicate I-129f packet to my fiance. He never needed it.

The beneficiary will need original documents for the interview. They will not get those back. I encourage all beneficiaries to get an extra original birth certificate to bring to USA, as you will not get the one you give the embassy and if you end up needing it, it's very difficult to get back. Much easier just to order 2 in the first place!

Unless specifically requested, sent only copies. You'll have a hard time getting the originals back. Be prepared to present the originals at the interview (I wasn't asked for any of them).

Make sure you bring the original birth certificate with you to the USA. you'll need it again for the AOS.

In general for all of your immigration:

Mailing

-original of forms you fill out and sign

-original of signed letters or statements written to USCIS or consulate.

-photocopies of personal documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decree

-photocopies of evidence like boarding passes, pay slips, tax files, bank statements, receipts

Interviews

-original personal documents

-original signed letter or statement (like an employer letter stating income)

London won't care if tax returns, or pay slips, or W2s from the USC are photocopies

Don't mail off your only copy of your important document because you won't get it back.

Original certificates and such are when you are taking it in your hand to show an immigration official in person.
