WOW!!! You are unbelievable. Where did I say anything like that? I support same same sex marriage. But the same taboos that bar same sex marriage usually apply to brother and sister. Why do you say it's OK for same sex couples to get married but not brother/sister if they truly love each other. Both are social taboos.

Gay relationships don't help the species either (or hurt). Homosexuality an incest both exist in nature. I had some hamsters that loved both. IMO marriage is not about helping our species but helping our society. It would be better to have multiple partners to fertilize the gene pool. That same 'ick' feeling you (and me) get from a brother and sister marrying applies to some people for same sex marriage.

The thing is that the brother and sister were raised separately so they don't recognize the taboo.

But if the whole 'children being freaks' angle is the basis for your contempt, then what about people with hereditary diseases? Are you for reinstating Eugenics?

The 'it makes me feel 'ick to think about it' isn't a very sensible way to determine whether something should be legal or not.

Is incest some kind of threat to 'society'? It Hardly seems very likely that because something like that is made legal it's going to somehow become a craze, a must do sexual freedom as it were.

My main concern is that Sibling sexuality certainly present problems in determining whether it's consensual or forced because of the family dynamic. Having said that, legality is probably the last thing on the mind of someone who is coercing another family member into sex.

Freaks? What an awful way to refer to the children who are born after an incestuous relationship.

Many of them have learning difficulties and a few have some physical abnormalities. To refer to members of our society in such a derogatory way is why people continue to treat the few who are afflicted like lower class citizens.

It makes me sad. They have quite challenging lives as it is, add to that people calling them freaks...well, I don't need to say any more do I?

All right, I'm sorry for "freaks." Uncalled for.

The article says that first cousins who are unable to bear children or older than childbearing age can get married in some states. I see no reason those who are in a sibling-sibling relationship and are older than childbearing age or unable to bear children shouldn't be able to get married, to be honest. If it makes them happy, then so be it. I just don't think we should condone their having children.

It's not a bad dictat to live by, judge no one. As for prohibition, it's value is certainly over rated. Education is a far more reliable way to actually stop people from doing things that are harmful to both themselves and other people.

The obvious point about homosexual marriage / vs incestuous marriage is that people have moral/ethical limits, something that probably shocks ultra-religious people.

Incest is and has always been a social taboo. Homosexuality used to be too - but its more socially accepted these days than incest. I dare say that homosexuality is much more common than incest or beastiality.
