Hi so my story is I'm in the UK military & was based in Las Vegas may 2012 - October 2015 on a Nato Visa. I was fortunate to meet my beautiful wife & we married in Las Vegas June 2015. We decided to come and live in the UK for a few years but she received an amazing job offer back in Las Vegas she couldn't turn down & she's now back out there. I'm about to leave the military & want to join her as soon as possible.

The non-immigrant visa has to be issued in the country where you were married so could i file for this in Las Vegas & join her soon?

Do I have to file a CR-1 Visa and wait a year for it to be processed?

I have a social security number & a history there will it speed up the process?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing will speed the CR-1 up.

Yes, if you are there then you can stay and adjust your status. Just be aware that you can't leave the country anytime soon then.

Or I'm I misunderstanding you? If you are not in the US you'll have to file for CR-1 and it takes about a year.

That's the bit I don't understand. Surely you are wanting to apply for an immigrant visa to live with her? A non-immigrant visa would not be permanent. And I don't see what difference it makes for visa purposes where you were married.

If she has already gone back to the US then you follow the same route as me and it will take about a year. Would have been quicker if you'd started this while she was still living in the UK but that's too late now.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath
