It's been a few months - time to check in and get some information!

(background: Philippines - K1 Visa - Entered USA and Married April2015 - Applied for AOS in June - biometrics July - Waiver of interview September - Permanent Resident category:CF1 in November)

She received original SSA Card with maiden name the in April, received MARRIED NAME SSA card change in May.

She has a MARRIED name United States Uniformed Services (Dependent) ID card in May.

Her Philippine Passport (valid until 2019) is in her MAIDEN NAME (her K1 Visa as well)

Her USA Permanent Resident card (valid until 2017) is in her MAIDEN NAME.

1 - At which point do we change her Philippine Passport to her married name (and how?)?
2 - At which point do we change her USA Permanent Resident card to her married name (and how?)?

NEXT!

When we did her initial AOS in June, we did NOT apply for "permission to travel" or for the "work authorization"

A - Now that she has her 2-year Green Card/Permanent Resident Card, do we still need to "apply" to USCIS for her to work here in the USA or travel outside the country?

SUMMARY:

She HAS a United States Federal ID card and a SSA card in her MARRIED NAME (and she can GET a Missouri STATE ID card in her married name).

Her PHILIPPINE passport AND her Green Card/Permanent Resident card are both in her MAIDEN names.

So the question or questions are - NEXT processes?

NOTE: we have already traveled extensively WITHIN the USA.... but sometime in 2016 we will be wanting to cross a border or two (Canada? Mexico? Caribbean Islands?) - additionally, we want to travel back to her island in the Philippines sometime in late 2016 early 2017.

Thanks - APPRECIATE everyone's input!

No need for AP/EAD if she has a GC - she is authorized to work and travel outside of the U.S. As mentioned, go to the Philippine embassy with appropriate documentation to get her passport re-issued with her married name. Not sure of the process, but I would think her GC should also be in her married name. All documentation/identification should match up, if possible.

Why was the I-485 not filed in her married name? That is when you should have gotten the green card in her married name. Now the process is here: https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-green-card-granted/replace-green-card

Did you complete Report of Marriage (ROM) with the Philippine consulate that represents the state where you were married? Once ROM is completed you can renew the passport in the married name (traditional Philippine format) Go to the Philippine consulate website that represents the state you live in for details.

Your wife has a green card, don't need the I-131 or the I-765 ... green card supersedes both... can travel internationally/enter the USA and work without issue.

When traveling to foreign countries verify your wife is allowed entry without a visa being she is traveling on a Philippines passport, some country give special consideration to the LPR status... some don't.

Replacement GC with married name requires filing an I-90 with USCIS, $450 (ugh) scanning and sending gc front and back, bc and MC. Then wait, wait, wait. Been over 2 1/2 months for us now. We screwed up by not filing original I130 with her married name.

BTW how did you get dependent ID in her married name? What evidence did you use? When we applied. could only get a maiden name ID. Same with State (OH) id. We need to get a photo id (GC) with married name to kick start all the rest.

Hank - sorry it took so long to acknowledge your response.

I don't know why the Green Card came in her maiden name - we filed the I-485 correctly. I think this this may have been caused by the USCIS Biometrics office 30-days after we sent in the I-485.

No matter really, her passport matches her green card with her maiden name -

- and her Missouri State Photo Identification Card matches her DoD Military (retired) dependents ID Card, her SSA Card, and her Marriage license, ATM/Debit cards, yada yada yada... so everything is pretty much covered.

Her name COULD HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE - but I don't think it will be... she has too many names for the USCIS Govt computer system (I suffer the same malady... 3 1st-names, 3 middles-names, 3 last-names.... or any combination lol (example: Gordon James Christian). Over my life-span, a military career, a civil service career, my names have been mismatched (last name first, first, middle name last, etc etc etc) my entire life.

She has a similar problem and "mistakes were made" by USCIS POE staff when she landed at LAX and was first entered into their computer - and everything else has followed in that foot-print....

....her first name is two-names, her middle name is of course her mother's maiden name, her last name is her father's/family name - i.e. "Mary Ellen Aragon Roberto"

So, all of her USCIS paperwork is simply Mary Ellen Roberto (Mary Ellen as her first name with no middle name listed....)

With the government and civil-service, I know better than to IMMEDIATELY (at the beginning) start submitting changes that may (or may NOT) be significant - So, we're keeping it like that until we attain her citizenship.

After it's all complete - THEN we'll do a name change where ever needed!

We COULD HAVE DONE the ROM here in Missouri when the Consulate General "Outreach" staff was here IN OUR TOWN last summer - but we were out of town for (another) funeral.

ROM has now been filed.

Thanks (again/as always) for your assist!

Chris.

Brassballs -

The Admin Support Unit in our area only required her Passport, SSA card (with her MARRIED name), Marriage License, State issued (Missouri) photo-identification card, and her Philippine birth certificate to "enroll" her in the DEERS system and get her the "Dependents" military ID card.

Her ROM has now been filed - thanks for your response!
