K-1 valid 6 mos, not 9?

Hmm, just looking at the previous post, and I see the K-1 is valid for a total of 6 months. I was under the impression, that my fiance has 6mos to ENTER the USA from date of issue, and then ANOTHER 90 to marry.

It seems he must enter AND we must marry within 6 months total.

Is this correct?

He must enter the US within 6 months of the issue of K1.... you then have 90 days to get married from the date of entry....

I know what you mean, because my fiance's visa just says it expires 6 months afterwards. But I think that's because the K1 is only good for a single entry, and that single entry must be done within that 6 month period.

Sort of.

The visa is valid for 6 months from issue, and for only one entry. Once used to come to the US, the visa is no longer valid.

At entry, non-immigrants are given an I-94 with their period of admission written in by the Border Agent. K-1s recieve 90 days permission to stay in the US, and they must marry their petitioner in that 90 days to be eligible to Adjust Status to Permanent Resident.

Once AOS has been filed, the immigrant gains a new status, "pending".

After AOS completes, the immigrant is a Permanent Resident.

So yes, the K-1 visa is valid for 6 months, but that only lets him get to the front door and ask to be let in.

If you want to say do a going away party in 5 months of getting the K-1 Visa in your hand you can.

Two distinct and independent clocks....

Clock #1 is Arrival Clock and needs to occur 6 mos from date of visa issuance.

Clock #2 is Marriage Clock and his needs to occur within 90 days (not 3 mos.) of arrival
