Hi,

I have my sister's wedding to attend to mid next month. I lost my green card previously, looked for it for 4 months then decided to bite the bullet and pay $400 to send an application to replace my green card. But guess what, after I had already sent my application for replacement, I found my green card!

But I received a response to my application with an appointment notice for Feb 9 and I have to fly to the Phils on the 17th! I called immigrations to find out how I can cancel my appointment and they told me to write a letter saying that I'm canceling my application for replacement. Then they told me that they will decide on that what to do with my application.

My worry is that, will this be a problem when I fly to the Philippines next month??? What if I don't get a response in time? I was thinking to go ahead with the appointment but I'm worried about how long it will take me to send me a new green card and that I might not get it in time.

Would appreciate any advice. thank you in advance for your time.

Withdraw your I-90 and forget about it.

You won't get the filing fee refunded.

Write a letter to whichever service centre your I-90 is pending at, giving your name, address, alien number, and receipt number, and state you wish to withdraw the application.

include a photo of your smiling face with the green card next to it, so they understand that you found the green card.

or, go to the appointment on the 9th, and withdraw it in person, there and then. [i prefer this method, really, as a human punches a button and gets it all sorted within 11 minutes] .

You know that green card has a code on it, and some data storage ? if'n you cancel the card, or uscis thinks to cancel the card, things can get messy if you use the card at an immigration control point WITHOUT talking with that human on the 9th at yer local USCIS office.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
