Hi everyone,

I work overseas and will be taking a job in the UAE next month. My wife is currently in the AoS stage and should get back a notice in a few weeks of (hopefully) case closed and move on to interview stage. Which in Vietnam is taking 4 to 5 months currently.

My wife will be joining me in the UAE. So my question is:

1. can she do the medical exam and get her interview done in the UAE?

2. If not, is it possible to delay the medical exam and interview for 3-4 months, until my contract is up and we can return to Vietnam? Is there a time limit to complete the interview and medical exam after the AoS is approved?

3. Once the visa is approved (IR-1) how long will she have to enter the U.S.?

We're trying to time everything so I can fly back with her after my contract is up February 2017.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued help.

She can have both the medical and interview done in the UAE however, she has to send an email to the NVC letting them know you want to change the location, they will request proof that the applicant is allowed to live there legally.

The visa is valid for 6 months from date medical was done. She can enter the US and return to UAE the next day if she wish should your contract not be up yet. At the POE the passport will be stamp and the visa in passport become valid for one year she should not stay out for longer than a six months though..

We're trying to time everything so I can fly back with her after my contract is up February 2017.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued help.

One thing is mandatory. The foreigner cannot immigrate (use the visa) before the US Citizen enters the USA. You'll also want to Google, "Maintaining Permanent Resident Status US". It's not as simple as the first reply makes it seem.

Does this mean that I will either have to be in the U.S.already or accompany my wife to the U.S.? I can't be in a foreign country and my wife still immigrate?

thanks

Yes, you must enter the US with or before your wife.
