Hi all, quick and hopefully simple question : My wife arrived in the US from Hungary yesterday (hooray!), and I'm wondering if there's a way to monitoring the progress or shipping status of the physical green card?

Thanks!

I've heard you can track it through ELIS/USCIS using the receipt number but it keeps telling me our number is invalid. Worth a try for you guys though!

I tried our LIN number and no update since the I-130 approval. I also read the tracking won't show up until the card is "optimized", whatever that means, not sure if that's true. Hopefully someone who's received their GC recently can chime in!

The original number from when you filed the I-130 will not work on the USCIS ELIS site. It has to be the IOE number. In any case, I didn't have any luck tracking mine with that - it just gives an error message every time.

It can take anywhere from 1 month to 6 months from what I've heard, but most likely 2-3 months. Mine just unexpectedly showed up after a month from POE.

Thanks for the information, all. So it seems there's no clear-cut way to track the status of the card.

She *is* qualified to look for work and be employed with just the visa in her passport, correct? Or do we have to wait for the green card itself for that?

CR-1, yes. I know she was eligible to work the second she passed through Customs, but how does that actually work at a job? If they ask for proof that she's eligible to work, she can just show the visa in lieu of the green card? Is there some kind of relevant ID number?

Sorry for the lack of timeline! I'll put one together.

Yep, the Visa in the passport is your GC until you recieve the plastic version

If you look at the Visa carefully it says it acts as a temporary I-551, an I-551 is GC

So all cool
