Canadian Citizen Working in Canada, Living Abroad in US

So I'm not sure where this topic actually would fall into. My boyfriend is a Canadian Citizen and I am a US Citizen, I have been living in Canada with him (on a temporary work visa) for the last year and my visa expires in April. He works a schedule of 7 days on/7 days off (yes, only half the year) and we are interested in the possibility of maybe moving back to the states when my visa is up and he would commute back and forth every set of days off. Does anyone know the steps we should take? There are people at his work who do this, living in Arizona and New Mexico. I don't see why he would have a problem traveling back and forth, this is what we did the first 6 months we dated and he was only questioned about it once. If anyone has any idea we would appreciate it. We are mainly concerned about him getting stopped at the border, or what kind of taxes he would pay? Would he even have to list himself as a resident in the US since he would technically be living and working half the year in Canada?

If you two want to live in the US, your boyfriend will need a proper visa to move. Since there are no boyfriend visas, you will have to make a decision on your future.

Traveling between two US States (AZ and NM) is not the same as traveling between to countries (USA and Canada).

While he may not have been questioned about it before, that doesn't mean he won't be in the future and if CBP determines he is living in the US without having obtained the proper visa, he will be refused entry and may be flagged to prevent any future entry without a visa.

There are also other implications such as his health care, he may forfeit his right to provincial if he is not living in Canada for the proper amount of time (sorry, I cant remember the exact amount of time) or is considered a non resident for tax purposes.

You need to decide where your boyfriend will be called a 'resident' (sorry, you do have to choose). While this was fine for 6 months when you were dating, it is not a permanent solution. Decide what you exactly want to do and then chase that visa path.
