Could you at least give your opinion about the news, instead of simply cut and paste here?

Im not sure how involved the tourist visa process is, but this does sound like a particular issue. Not sure if they insinuated they failed to care for her meaningfully due to the political nature or general malpractice. It does seem odd that her health deteriorated holistically and that this place had a systemic problem.

Thats my opinion merrytooth ;)

Also the article grossly confuses the names. Doesnt even say what happened with the new USC child?

The above article showed the baby is born healthy.

If the same thing occurs in a China Hospital, they won't be getting that kind of money compensation!

I wonder if family has to pay US taxes on the compensation received? :huh2:

Merrytooth my friend. Please do us the courtesy and use your spellcheck.

I think you meant :

The above article showed the baby is born wealthy.

Never realize anyone really wanted my opinion. Even though I disagree with people "abusing" the system to get to the US, I am glad they awarded the family (especially when it's being paid out by the party at fault).

One of employee's niece was in a similar situation last year. She had a complicated pregnancy, and after the birth of the child she was stabilized or so they thought. She was then left alone for a few hours and passed away. This was not her first child, and she was also a nurse. They are still going through the lawsuit process.

Hospital awards are not taxable.

The mother had serious post partum bleeding. The doctor was tending to her although her vitals were not stabilized, he went home. He was called back when she went code blue. What really hurt the doctor is he did not record his findings in her chart before he left so it was his word against the floor nurse. The family didn't really "get" 5.2 million, a jury heard all the evidence and awarded it to the husband.

The husband posted a YELP review. His version is slightly different from the article, and seems to blame the doctor more than the hospital, nurses or ICU staff.

Obstetrics is a disaster when things goes wrong. Hard to say if the doctor being there would have made a difference, but he still should have been there.

Deaths by medical mistakes hit records

It's a chilling reality – one often overlooked in annual mortality statistics: Preventable medical errors persist as the No. 3 killer in the U.S. – third only to heart disease and cancer – claiming the lives of some 400,000 people each year. At a Senate hearing Thursday, patient safety officials put their best ideas forward on how to solve the crisis, with IT often at the center of discussions.

Hearing members, who spoke before the Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, not only underscored the devastating loss of human life – more than 1,000 people each day – but also called attention to the fact that these medical errors cost the nation a colossal $1 trillion each year.

How many news stories did you see on CNN about malpractice did you see this week . 1000 people died on average according to the article ?

Do you have a solution? The theme of your posts seems to always be bad things happen in scenario X, so let's not worry about guns. Can you offer something more constructive or is this just a way of venting?

Only the lives of people killed by guns don't matter. Guess he's not a member of all lives matter.
