I know my fiancee needs a copy of the NOA2. However, when looking through the copy of our petition which I sent her when we were approved, she can't seem to find it. I just had a look through my paperwork and I *think* I found our NOA2, but I can't quite remember if it's the right form. It's printed on plain white paper, is dated, and essentially says 'Dear Petitioner, your petition has been approved.' It then lists our case number and other info .

Is this NOA2? It isn't labled as NOA2 anywhere. How imperitive is it to the process to have a copy of your NOA2?

If we have indeed lost our NOA2, are we screwed?

We are advised to have the original NOA2 at the interview just in case, though reading through this site I can't find a single post saying it was asked for at the interview. Probably you will be OK even if you don't have it.

However, it IS needed later, at the time of Adjustment of Status here in USA. Are you sure what you have is not the actual NOA2? Doesn't it say approved? Why not send that one instead, just in case.

All the more reason to make COPIES and SCAN important docs like this, so you always have a copy somewhere!

Yes, I am sure what I have is not the NOA2. I think it's the letter that came WITH the NOA2. Is it true you can call the USCIS and request a copy?

Also, there's another question I've been fearing to ask. Is there a time limit on how long my fiancee can take to send in her packet? We've been taking our time a bit on it to get a few last things that came up during our petition in order. Things involving her family in the UK. It's now been about 6 months since she received her packet. Have we waited to long? When I found the NOA2 on this site the example that was given had a 'validity' date of only four months....

I'm really terrified right now...

The letter that you have, does it say your petition is being forwarded to such-and-such embassy and have a barcode on it, signed by the Bureau of Consular Affairs? If so that sounds like the letter I got from the NVC.

I did send my fiance a copy of the NOA2 for the interview, they didn't ask for it. But as was said, the original is defnately needed at the AOS. I suggest you tear through your house and try to find it by the time AOS rolls around. :)

Well, I managed to find my NOA2 after tearing my room apart. I'm still worried about the timeframe, however.

I'm glad you found the NOA2! :) The timeframe I don't know the answer to, I bet someone else here will be able to help you with that though. Could your fiancee call the embassy tomorrow to ask?

The problem with calling the embassy is that it's rediculously expensive. We once looked into it and I think it was like $15 a minute.

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up again and it's less than $3 a minute. When she calls, what should she say?

Yea! Whoohoo you found the NOA2! Congrats! Now scan or copy it and keep it with you. And send a copy to your fiancée along with the original.

Angilla is right – probably the paper you were first describing is from the NVC.

Yes, the NOA2 is only good for 4 months. You need to just explain to the Consulate the situation – tell them the date of the NOA2, the reference number on it, the reference number on the NVC letter, and say you need an extension as you are late in sending in Packet 3. If calling is too hard, you can email the Consulate instead, giving all the details. Some Consulates are really good about replying to emails. They might instruct you to give a written request.

For an example letter, please go to “Example Forms” on the top of this page, scroll down and click on “Request to Extend Approval of I-129F.”

Good luck!

Ask on the regional forum if anyone has a free number for your embassy. I know with Paris embassy it's like 12 euros, or something like that, to call. But someone here discovered a free number for them.
