Hello.

I am new to this site and frustrated to be stuck on the first piece of paperwork. I am a New Zealander living in Australia and I am applying for K1 to get married to my man who lives in Columbus Ohio.

I only recently got back from America after visiting with him for 3 weeks.

I am filling in the "information about your alien fiance" on behalf, and I am already confused in re. to questions on 15.

15.b I-94 Arrival departure record number. (date of arrival is the next question, so what is my arrival/departure record number- where do I find this number? what is this number?! I took this into where I booked my flight and they couldn't tell me what or where this number is/was)

15.f. Travel document number (again, have put my passport number in 15e what/where do I find my travel document number)

15.g Country of issuance for passport or travel document number. (my passport is a New Zealand passport, not Australian, even though I have been living here 10+ years, just to confirm do I put New Zealand for this one?)

15.h. Exp. date for passport or travel document. (just to confirm, this will be my passports expiration date?)

Also, how do I find where my local embassy or consulate is? Would I need to go back to NZ as I am a NZ citizen technically, or am I okay to submit my local embassy here in Australia?

If anybody can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Getting so stuck on the first piece of paperwork this early on in the process, I will no doubt be on these forums for the entirety of my journey, such an informative site!

cheers. (and thank you!)

Hello!

Fellow Kiwi living in Australia here.

Country of issue is NZ if you're still on your NZ passport.

Your embassy with be Sydney, and you will not need to travel back to NZ to file :)

ETA: There are example forms under the guides section, they are super useful!

After some research, I am getting confused again, with these forms, do I send in the evidence of our relationship (including proof of id, birth certs etc)? Or does that part come next, after the I-129F petition is approved? So essentially my fiance would only be sending in the completed I-129F papers? (with payment) Is this incorrect? Do I need to gather all of that information and make copies to send in with this initial I-129F? Or are others doing it just for good measure even though it is not 100% required?

You're referring to the process that we call "front-loading" the petition -- adding evidence of bona fide relationship. USCIS doesn't care about this material but will pass it to the consulate when the petition is approved.

Front-loading is highly valuable (often, indispensable) when the visa interview will be at a high-fraud consulate. However, Sydney isn't known as that, so you can add some evidence if you like.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for that. I was aware of the importence, but just confused if this 'proof' is sent BEFORE anything is approved, or after I get the go ahead in my country and only begin compiling the proof/evidence when *I* send the completed Forms to my Consulate after having the initial I-192F sent in and (hopefully given the green light).?

So in conclusion, my fiance in america should send be sending in the evidence of our relationship with the initial I-1927?

Also are you able to file this electroniclly, or must this first part be sent to the lockbox?

Sorry for the most probably, obvious questions. (believe it or not I have been trying to research this via the site-

Thanks in advance

You can send in relationship evidence with the I-129F petition, but the most important evidence to send is what is required. One of the main things is proof of meeting face-to-face within the 2 years prior to filing. See the guides here on VJ, and more importantly, the I-129F instructions for what is required with the I-129F.

Follow the I-129F instructions. It is not filed electronically. They are all mailed to the Dallas Lockbox address. http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f
