We've gotten the I-130 approved and have the letter from the NVC to begin part 2 (choose agent, pay fee etc..)

We are both in Vietnam.

My questions are:

1. How long after we submit all the paper work can we expect an interview at the consulate in Vietnam? I'm asking because I have a job offer in Japan and it will be a one year contract. If the time is short to get the interview, I'd stay in Vietnam and not go.

2. After the interview and the (hopefully) approval, is there a time limit on coming to the U.S.? What I mean is, can she be approved and then fly to America a few months later?

3. Can she interview in Japan?

Thank you all, this site and the members have been so amazingly helpful in the process.

I believe you have to enter within 6 months....that may only be k1 though. For question 3....technically yes....you must make a request through nvc to change the interviewing embassy and depending on caseload in Japan they (Japan makes the decision) will either approve or deny your request.

1. I would imagine at least 2 months but you'd be lucky if you get interview within a month after the NVC closes your case. Please note that it might take a few weeks to a few months to process at NVC.

2. Yes she can. She has 6 months after a successful interview to enter the US. However, please note that a residency visa is to live in the USA. Your wife should stay in the USA until she becomes a US citizen. Otherwise, she might be classified as abandonment of residency and her residency might be revoked if she stays out of the states for over a year. If you work for an American company overseas, then that's a whole different story. She can technically apply for citizenship even a day after she becomes resident.

3. I highly doubt it. It needs to be in the home country. However, call NVC and ask.

6-12 months depending on the visa would be a realistic expectation.
