Hi to all,

I went to the US Embassy in Mexico City this morning. They accepted my K-3 petition, and they were very helpful. I called the helpline last night and they told me that they didnt know where the embassy was located, and that all I could take was the actual I-130 form, but after reading so much here, I took everything with me. Good thing I did because she asked for everything! The woman told me that in about 1 month the papers will go to Ciudad Juarez, and that they would not be sent to the US, so I'm happy about saving that time and money. She said it would be about 1 year for the interview, which is fairly normal.

If anyone has any questions about DCF, let me know and I will try to answer them based on what happened to me in Mexico City today. I will try to keep all posted about our timeline.

Have a happy Thursday!

Cindy

Hello there!

The consulates at the US embassy are accepting I-130 petitions? Does this mean DCF is back? Or is this the USCIS office?

Mexico City is one of those main offices like Rome and Bangkok so naturally they would accept DCF applications. Besides I think there is probably a high demand/need to warrant having a USCIS office in Mexico.

What sounds funny to me is that she said its gonna take 1 year for the interview? That sounds insane to me I think I would rather file for the k3 visa back in the states if she said it would take 1 year for you to get an interview with DCF.

:secret: If the petition is accepted by USCIS, even if it is overseas, it is not DCF - it is "overseas filing." DCF is when it is accepted by the consulate itself.

Some countries with huge immigration loads have a LONG wait for interviews regardless of where USCs file their petition; the wait time is for an interview at the embassy after the petition is approved. So they may well have much faster total processing time if they file with USCIS in Mexico City and thus get in line earlier with the embassy for the visa interview than if they wait for USCIS in the USA to process their petition. Makes those of us in smaller countries feel at least a little bit lucky!

The I-130 was not accepted by the embassy.. it was accepted by the USCIS Overseas Field Office located in Mexico City. This was the procedure before the Adam Walsh Act...

And they have only accepted I-130's from those who are resident in Mexico in the past and it appears currently...
